BENCHMARKS & MILESTONES

Improved reliability, consistency, performance, and availability of departmental and company-wide computerized data at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

Improved availability of information in SLAC’s existing legacy databases and efficiency of data usage by consolidating separate databases into a single Site-Wide Database and creating links between other databases. This allowed a query on one database to be linked automatically to another database, automating many previously manual tasks.

Collaborated in developing and launching SNOCAP’s MyStore product for mid-level labels and aggregators, as well as independent artists. Designed and implemented database structures to hold data, and API interfaces to be used by the web front-end code to access the data, and to meet the functional requirements as set by the product team.

Improved performance of I&J Solutions’ Premium Billing product, much of which was completely redesigned. Overall, the elapsed time was reduced from 36 hours to 9 hours for a performance improvement of 75%.

Collaborated in the development and improved performance of reporting and batch processing for I&J Solutions, using PL/SQL, XML, Java, and RTF.

Improved performance of Aeris Communications’ Online Reports, Monthly Billing and ETL processes using PL/SQL and SQL. The elapsed time for many of Aeris’ reports was reduced from 30 to 40 minutes or more down to less than 2 minutes, and in some cases, less than 10 seconds. An ETL process which had been barely able to keep up with the incoming data - and often was unable to keep up - was improved such that it could handle the increasing load using less than 25% of its capacity.

Improved performance of Wells Fargo’s Online Recovery Reports. The elapsed time for many of Wells Fargo’s reports was reduced from more than 40 minutes down to 2 seconds or less.

Provided test data for Performance Testing of the Federal Reserve Bank’s new FedCash application.

Rewrite Kaiser Permanente SQL code exported from Teradata into Exadata for performance improvements. The performance of many SQL queries was improved dramatically, from hours to minutes, from minutes to seconds, from hours to seconds.

STANFORD LINEAR ACCELERATOR CENTER, Menlo Park, CA – Senior Database Engineer, 1999-2005

SLAC is a High-Energy Research Facility, run by Stanford University for the Department of Energy.

I had many responsibilities over the years. In general, I provided databases to various groups within the lab in order to improve day-to-day operations and reporting capabilities to the Department of Energy.

•Developed and maintained Oracle database applications for site-wide institutional data on Oracle 7 through 9i and 10g. These databases helped SLAC to maintain information needed for the day-to-day operations, as well as helping emergency personnel, and mandated reporting. By combining several disparate and often inconsistent databases into a single database, multiple data entry was eliminated, and data errors were reduced. This information is available to all groups on the SLAC web site.

•Developed and maintained Oracle database applications for the high energy physics experiments BaBar, PEPII and GLAST using Oracle's CASE tools, and Web Server Generator. Databases helped the experiments to maintain information needed about their people, analyses, activities, hardware, trouble reports, publications and other documents.

•Developed and maintained a seamless integration on the Web of the BaBar Hardware Tracking Database with the BaBar Problem Tracking Database in Remedy using hand-coded custom Oracle Stored Procedures written in PL/SQL. (The BaBar Problem Tracking Database in Remedy was built by others). This web application helps BaBar to track modules that have had problems. BaBar users can bring up a trouble ticket in Remedy and see which hardware modules have been associated with that trouble call, or, they can bring up a hardware module and see what trouble tickets have been associated with that module.
