To whom this may concern,
My name is Megan Ridle and this May I will graduate from the Honors College at the University of South Carolina with a BA in English and a minor in Creative Writing. I am seeking a job in a fast-paced environment where I can help attorneys within a successful law firm. As I graduate early May, I can begin around May 20th.
My past experience is primarily customer service driven, but also includes an administrative internship with Assurance Agency in Schaumberg, IL. At Assurance, I completed organizational work such as printing, copying, filing, and distributing paperwork upon time-constraints as well as front-desk work where I greeted clients and transferred phone calls to the proper extension. In my various customer service positions, I learned how to effectively listen to customer needs and use knowledge of the product to meet them. These positions showed me how much a difference creating relationships with clients can make, both in client satisfaction as well as my own. I have plenty of experience working with customers, as well as organizing online files which will aid me as a Paralegal.
As my resume explains my workplace skills in detail, here I’ll highlight how my BA in English has prepared me for Paralegal work. As writing is a key part of the position, my proficiency in grammatic and written structure will come in handy for communicative emails as well as document production. Additionally, I have spent much time writing research papers with strict deadlines (the longest a 20-page paper) which required academic sources; thus, I have experience efficiently searching for supporting documents as well as completing projects ahead of deadlines. As my major has trained me to read with an eye for detail, I can easily pull out the main idea and important details of any document before summarizing them for attorneys. The experience I gained as an English major is invaluable in its lessons on organization, drafting, detail-orientation, and pattern recognition – all skills which equip me to complete Paralegal work competently.
While I am aware of the previous experience or advanced education of other candidates, I’d like to reinforce that any direct-experience I lack is made up for in work-ethic and fervor. I do intend to complete a Paralegal certification program, but before I begin, I want to make sure I have time independent of school and the funds to do so. I view my work as a reflection of myself, and I will only produce work indicative of my best performance. I take pride in my work, and as my interest in the position is equal parts work and learning opportunity, you can expect me to spend time learning to excel. I cannot imagine a better group of people to surround myself with or a more thrilling environment to contribute to as Paralegal. I appreciate your time in considering my application and look forward to answering any questions.
Respectfully,
Megan Ridle
