Clubs
Teensharp
I’ve been a Teensharpie since 2017 I started my sophomore year. Teensharp prepares students of color to attend top colleges in the nation. Teensharp runs throughout the school year, we talk 4 college courses every year and we get college credits from those courses. Teensharp is every Saturday from 9-4 pm. When I joined Teensharp I was able to not only grow as a scholar but also as a leader. I gained the skills to apply for all the opportunities that I’m qualified for, I was able to push myself as much as I can to achieve my goals and I was able to find what I’m passionate about and work towards my passions.
Student government
I was the Vice President/secretary and planer manager at the student government club 2018-2019 in this club I and 5 other students decided to create student government because the school that I attend from 9-11 was newly open and we as students felt like we needed to do it or else it wouldn’t have been done. We planned events, we talked to the Students about what they wanted in the school and We did volunteer work from time to time.
Rotary Interact club
I was apart of the rotary interact club sophomore year. In this club I was the vice president/secretary We did a lot of event planning for the community and the school like food drives, clothing drives and school supply drives. Last year we had worked with a school in cameroon that got burned down last year, we did a school supply drives to help give back to the students in need. Sadly the club closed because the staff who helped us open the club had moved away and since we didn’t have a staff to mentor us the club had to close.
BLACK STUDENT UNION
I was apart of the BSU club last year,I was a secretary in the club, the club started last year and it ended at the end of the year because the school shut down.. In BSU we talked about a lot of issues that was going on not just in the african American community but in all community, we were a very diverse group, we talked about colorism, all lives matter, bullying, gender equality and racism in school in the world and in the work field, we were able to connect with each other on a personal level. Aspira
I joined aspire club 2019-2020 this club is a multicultural group and we do a lot of volunteer work, academic work, and we have multiple event to bring all cultures together to have a diverse community.
Extracurricular Activities
Diamond challenge
Me and my friend isha Participated in the diamond challenge during my sophomore year of high school. We was very passionate about child marriage and when we knew that we can do something to solve it we decided to do it. We came up with the idea of creating our own nonprofit organization to be the ones who was going to keep fighting to end this problem no matter how long it takes to end this problem across the nation. We were able to make it through the first round but sadly we had a lot of competitive people with great ideas who were also running against us and we didn’t make it through the 3rd round. We decide not to give up even though we didn’t win and are still working on our organization.
Dual school
I did dual school for 2 year. I worked with 23 other students who had a social problem that they wanted to solve and we work together to help solve that problem we had 6 weeks of rigor activities to help us solve our problems and present our solution at the exhibition at the end of the program. Upward bound
I participated in upwards bound in the summer of 2018-2019. This program wasn’t just a summer a program but it was also a year long program. We took classes in the summer that helped us prepare for the school year, we visited colleges to get an idea of what colleges to look at when applying, we had meaningful conversations with not just the students but also the staff too. We had mentors that helped us academically throughout the school year. NSLI-Y
I applied for Nsli-y my freshman year but I didn’t get the opportunity because it’s a very rigorous program. I applied my junior year and got accepted semifinalist and went for an interview but sadly I didn’t get accepted but I’m going to be applying this year and see if I get finalists. Summer Enrichment Activities
Brandywine Library
I volunteer at the Brandywine library last summer. I worked to ensure that parents were signing up and encouraging their sons or daughters to read as much as they can to prepare them for preschool and elementary, I also helped to organize the books and clean up the library after the kids were done. Equality Breakfast
I had the opportunity to share my story of being an Ell student with two of my friends who are in Teensharp. This event was held at Morgan State University, we were able to tell our story in front of mother and father, teachers, principals and etc. We didn’t just tell our story but we also told them what we wanted to do to solve this problem.
Christiana Hospital
I volunteer at the Christian hospital last year in the summer. I and a group of other people worked on painting the walls in the playroom to make it look eye drawing and fun, we also helped out with organizing the Liberty and painting the children side of the library. Rising Kings
I volunteer my sophomore year and junior year at the raising king event that was held as a pitch competition for young men who had a business idea that they wanted to pursue. I helped set up the event and to check in the guests that attend.Fun fact I was the first girl who pitch my organization idea and I went head to Head with the finalist because the audience loved my pitch. Church/park
I volunteer at my church from time to time to help clean up and set up for the services. I helped with events that we had at my Church. I worked with my aunt to volunteer last summer to clean a local park that wasn’t in great condition.
