Managed the journal as second in charge in the absence of the Editor. My particular areas were Asia region, especially South Asia, technology including nuclear energy and armaments, United Nations, Africa, especially South Africa, health care, gender issues. Also managed the EPW ofice and managed all aspects of the institution. eSocialSciences, Editor since December 2005.
Founded and launched eSocialSciences with the support of IRIS Business. Began as a public service initiative of IRIS, but became an independent entitiy under IRIS Knowledge Foundation. Designed, developed and managed eSS from its inception. First ever web-based social sciences research portal. It has the largest repository of social sciences research articles in and on the region numbering over 15000 from a range of institutions in India, South Asia, West Asia, US, UK, Singapore and Australia. Its publication space is sought after and accessed and read and reprinted by scholars and research institutions here and abroad. As Editor and head I trained and managed editors and content managers and content writeres. Periodically eSS commissions and brings out topical thematic collections as independent e- publications. eSS has incorporated several innovations in the webspace suited to the dissemination of scholarly knowledge and publications and is in fact a testing ground for a web-based products that have subsequently been used elsewhere successfully. IRIS Knowledge Foundation: Founder Director since 2010. The objective of the Foundationis to make knowledge freely available not just to the academic community but to the public at large using sophisticated new technologies. IKF works to develop information technology solutions for social science research projects in the area of documentation, research using new technologies (such as online tool development, applicaton of research tools, developing conventional methodologies to fit new formats using IT) The Foundation focuses on the interface of technology and knowledge dissemination. It develops web-based platforms using IT and innovating and customising existing software and developing new modules for data and information dissemination in the social sciences. As director, I ideate, manage and direct operations. Periodically IKF also undertakes social science research projects:
• Use of relevance of social media at election times;
• Mega sports events and their impact on environment and labour practices;
• Embedded case study of youth employed in new technlogy sector, with particular reference to migrant youth.
IKF developed, researched and published the first Status of Urban Youth Report for India which I anchored and headed the editorial team.
IKF’s projects include
• SHRAM, a portal devoted to internal migration . It has a core content of ongoing data rendered easily useable to lay readers and users,with a repository of all scholarly work on the subject in India, an updated news content featureas well as resarch publications. The first phase of the project has been completed and the next phases are under negotiation.
• SPANDAN, (System of promoting appropriate national dunamism for agricuture and nutrition) which has a data hub at its core and is a repository and content portal.
• GME-CEHAT is a teaching portal used to develop and teach newly developing gender- sensitive medical subjects in undergraduate medical colleges.
• UN-HABITAT’s youth developent portal that actively engaged with youth across the globe. IKF also anchored for four years UN-HABITAT’s youth for development initiatives including the worl-wide competition for a year-long support for youth-led projects.
