Locum tenens staffing company. I work locum tenens jobs as a Neonatal/Pediatric Hospitalist. Duties range from rounding on newborns in nursery/NICU and pediatric inpatients to attending obstetric deliveries (C-section and high risk) and performing a range of procedures as necessary and managing and transferring patients who required higher level of care.

February 2016 – present Mednax/Pediatrix Medical Group

Mednax/Pediatrix is a national organization that hires a range of pediatric specialists. I work as a neonatal hospitalist at Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin, GA. I work 26 weeks per calendar year as mostly 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. My duties include attending high-risk deliveries, routine newborn care up to Level II NICU (CPAP, HFNC, mechanical ventilation < 24 hrs, antibiotics, phototherapy, feeder/growers, etc). I perform procedures such as circumcisions, lumbar punctures, excision of skin tags, UACs/UVCs, IVs, and endotracheal intubations. I serve as lead physician in the nursery. Current projects include reviewing and revising protocols, orchestrating in-service education for nurses, and assisting with mother-baby transition, etc.

oSpecific group in the section geared towards leadership development in medical directors, quality directors, or any other clinical leaders. I am a part of a workgroup that is focused on Advanced Communication and will be presenting information on this topic to the whole group. The NLG is also focused on quality dashboards and change management as well.

Submitted a challenging clinical case for poster presentation and was accepted. Presented a poster titled “Multiple Cardiac Anomalies in a Neonate Diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome.” Poster presentation was on March 23, 2018 from 5-7 PM.

July 2011 – August 2015 Presentations

Fellowship: I prepared and presented presentations concerning quality improvement around improving efficiency of plain films in the NICU. I also presented presentations as part of morbidity and mortality discussing topics such as limits of viability, placental abruption and stroke in the newborn. I also participated in the weekly Ethics and Patient Care Conference where we discussed patients with complex medical, social and ethical cases.

Residency: I prepared and presented different case reports/presentations on cases such as osteomyelitis, pulmonary manifestations of HIV in children, spontaneous pneumothorax and necrotizing pneumonia. I also presented at a Pediatric Grand Case Report: “Serum Sickness and Serum Sickness-Like Reaction.”

September 2014 Teaching Elective

August 25-September 21, I taught residents and medical students during rounds. I learned how to be an effective teacher to an adult learner and how to give presentations to different types of audiences. I also learned how to search for and effectively use evidence-based medicine for clinical practice. I gave 3 presentations during the elective including a journal club presentation.

My abstract on “NMDA Receptor Antibody Encephalitis” was accepted and I received a travel award to go to Toronto, Canada in 2013 to present during the Pediatric Section. I was not able to attend due to medical leave.

June 2012 Midwest Pediatric Hospital Medicine Conference

June 1-2, 2012, I attended the PHM conference in Ann Arbor, MI sponsored by the pediatric hospitalist programs of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. I presented a clinical conundrum case presentation on “NMDA Receptor Antibody Encephalitis.” I also attended different lectures given by different physicians on a range of topics dealing with hospital medicine.

oMay 3-5, I attended a NRHA conference in Austin, Texas. I attended the part of the conference geared toward students interested in improving rural health. I was given a scholarship to attend this conference.

oJuly 21-23, 2010, I attended a NRHA conference in Portland, Maine. The conference was geared toward improving rural health in the hospital and private clinical settings. Topics ranged from “Demystifying Lean” to “Health Care IT” to “Developing Crisis in Rural General Surgery.” I learned much about the needs of rural healthcare and the current methods in place to improve it. I was given a scholarship to attend this conference.

July 2020 – Current AAP National COVID -19 Registry – Section on Neonatal Perinatal Med

As the principle investigator for Wellstar Health System, tracked and submitted COVID-19 positive mothers across 7 hospitals in the system and submitted the de-identified data into the registry for statistical analysis.

oAs a first year fellow, began working on a project centered around the swallow study in preterm infants.

oPerformed a Quality Improvement Project with Drs. Makia Powers and Nika Howell. Project titled: “Pediatric Oral Health Patterns in Urban and Suburban Practices.” Surveyed parents about their kids’ oral health practices in private and public pediatric clinics to determine what quality improvement measures can be taken to improve oral health.

Intensive Care Unit, Dr. Martha Sola-Visner, M.D. – NIH Short-term Research Training Program

oDr. Sola’s lab focused on developmental megakaryopoiesis and C-mpl expression. Bone marrow biopsies of adults and children were stained to look for c-mpl expression on adult megakaryocytes vs. neonatal megakaryocytes to explain why adult Mks act differently than neonatal Mks. C-mpl is the receptor for thrombopoietin, which is the humoral regulator of megakaryopoiesis (differentiation and maturation of a stem cell to a megakaryocyte which produces blood platelets).

oDuties included actively participating in committee meetings and conference calls, annual review of perinatal outcomes, assist in developing the Program Plan (annually), and more

oFocused on helping the Program Services Coordinator, Kesha Clinkscale, with the mission to prevent early elective C-sections if not medically indicated. Also planned to help the committee reach out to counties other than Fulton County, who have high pre-term birth rates and need funding to further the cause of the March of Dimes.

Fall 2011 – Present ACT/SAT Tutor

oTutor high school students who need to improve their American College Testing or Scholastic Aptitude Test scores for entrance into college. Work with students on their test-taking skills by using experience, along with practice materials and online resources.

Spring 2008 LSUHSC-NO Women’s Flag Football Team (GoNADS)

oPlayed defense against other medical programs of the health science center with practice ~ 2 times a week and games on Sunday at University of New Orleans. The team went on to win the play-offs and the local championship against Tulane University School of Medicine.

Fall 2008 – Spring 2011 Medical Ministry, Living Faith Christian Center

oAs a service to the members of my church, I manually checked blood pressures weekly for patients with known HTN and discussed any medical concerns, referring them to the appropriate health care professional. We also did Health Fairs, where different health care professionals from the community set up booths and give information to the patients. I also submitted monthly health tips (from ADA, AHA, etc) for the church bulletin with regard to diet, exercise, and other facets of being healthy.

oAs a counselor, spent a week with kids with special needs, doing various activities and field trips. Supervised a bus of kids and was responsible for round up and count and snack distribution.

Fall 2006 – Spring 2009 Student Run Clinics, LSU School of Medicine

oAs a member of the student run clinics, I see homeless patients at Ozanam Inn or at New Orleans Mission. Patients range from kids (fall 2006 to spring 2007) to adults (current). We would see everything from common colds and DM and HTN to do pap smears and treating STDs. Also mentor first and second year medical students, teaching them history and physical exam skills and building a differential diagnosis.

oHelped to buy supplies for the kids at the hospital to do arts and crafts. Helped to bring patients from their rooms and helped with arts and crafts and helped with clean up.

oAs a counselor for kids who had lost a loved one and was experiencing grief, I supervised the girls group with other student counselors. Helped the boys and girls with various activities over a weekend at a camp site – writing letters to that loved one, making a tree house in remembrance, etc. Read books to the campers about grief and simply offered support.

oDuring Hurricane Katrina, I applied and was accepted to Harvard for the semester while my undergraduate college was being repaired. I tried out for the cheerleading squad and had an amazing Ivy League experience! That year, Harvard beat their rivals – Yale!

Procedural:

Neonatal intubations, lumbar punctures, umbilical arterial and venous catheter placement, arterial sticks, peripheral IVs, and NG placement and circumcisions. I also have experience with pediatric intubations and urgent care procedures such as laceration repair, etc.
