Safe Haven Summary
As with FDR’s CCC and WPA, Safe Haven’s Community Service Corps (CSC) provides JOBS in the Public and Private Sections to Break the Cycles of Poverty and Crime in America.
If the ONLY thing we do in 2019 is to implement Afterschool programs for our children and Work Programs for ALL individuals on Probation and Parole, we can easily reach the initial goal of Reducing Gang Crime and MURDERS >40% and help make Chicago a Model for the Country on the way towards achieving a Gang Free, Drug-Free, Full-Employment Economy in America by the year 2020 that SAVES LIVES and BILLIONS of tax dollars--significantly IMPROVING Education and Business OUTCOMES while Dramatically Reducing Crime in the process. This would be a true Win-Win for ALL Americans.
Simply put, not only can Safe Haven finally break the cycles of gangs, drugs, dropouts, abuse and Joblessness, when combined with Dr. Ladien’s Global Energy Independence Program (GEIP) saving $2-3 T/yr, we can finally give the PEOPLE truly BIPARTISAN Universal Healthcare and Education and a PEACE Paradigm based on GOOD SCIENCE- optimizing OUTCOMES instead of Ideologies. Time will tell.
Biography
After getting 99%tile in Science on the MCATS, from 1971-1981, Dr. Ladien studied the hardware and software of Brain Information Processing to understand not only the core foundations of human behavior but also the one “tool” that humanity has used to build all of its other tools over the millennia.
Throughout Rush Medical College, his Psychiatric Residency at the Loyola School of Medicine and a Child Fellowship at the Institute for Juvenile Research, Dr. Ladien further developed Safe Haven.
In 1991, Dr. Ladien’s first official act as a physician and Medical Director at Morris Hospital was to cut his salary in half so that he could continue work on Safe Haven.
In 1993, Dr. Ladien became Medical Director at St. Mary’s Hospital precisely to implement Safe Haven in Kankakee, Illinois. As described in Safe Haven’s Epilogue, the then-CEO with a few calls was able to KILL Safe Haven dead in its tracks. The CEO’s “rationale” was “We don’t want to be known as the Black Hospital.” Such is the nature of Arrogance, Stupidity and Systematic Abusers of Power (ASSs).
Dr. Ladien returned to Chicago to become the Chair of Psychiatry at Grant Hospital for many years until the Hospital closed and his beloved wife, Sylvia, developed leukemia secondary to over-radiation. After 19 months of living together in hospital rooms, with the use of then-experimental Monoclonal Antibodies (MAbs), Sylvia’s blast cell count was Zero and her vital signs were stable off of pressor medications.
Despite the clear positive effects of MAbs, St. Joseph Administration and Its Lawyers (SJAIL) decided to deliberately ignore Sylvia’s multiple Advance Directives to be Full Code, turned up an unneeded morphine drip and watched for Seven Days while Sylvia slowly Drowned to Death on her own secretions when she could have easily been saved. Again, such is the nature of ASSs.
While Sylvia would never want the Taj Mahal as a “legacy,” she would very much appreciate sharing PEACE with the People of the World. For Sylvia and all other victims of ASSs over the Ages, may their sacrifices not be in vain. Alone, we can accomplish little. Working TOGETHER we can Change the World. So it shall be.
