BP/Amoco Whiting Refinery Expansion. BP Treatments representative/consultant on the integrated project management team (IPMT) during the FEED package for the upgrades to the sulfur recovery network including amine towers, regenerators, 2 new SRU trains, TGTUs, and sulfur pits, as part of the Amoco Whiting major upgrade to enable the refinery to use ultra-heavy Canadian crude. Responsibilities included review of flow diagrams, material balances and P&IDs Acted as process expert for the HAZOP review. Also participated in OSBL reviews which included natural gas distribution, water supply and distribution, steam systems, waste water collection and treatment, and plant flares.

Transferred permanently in 2009 to the Texas City Refinery to help rebuild the refinery’s sulfur recovery and amine treating infrastructure which was damaged by Hurricane Rita This involved fast-tracking several projects simultaneously through all phases of project work from FEED studies, safety reviews, to construction and commissioning. Proposed, formulated, and coordinated implementation of an amine swap consisting of a blend of MEA and MDEA to replace the existing solvent to improve safety and environmental compliance, increase capacity, and improve reliability by minimizing system-wide corrosion and fouling of a 22- contactor, 2-regenerator amine system. Received a commendation for a corporate Helios award for this work in 2011.

Helped optimize operations of amine units, SRUs, TGTUs, and SWS through debottlenecking and process-improvement projects and programs.

Developed and delivered process, troubleshooting, and simulation unit-specific operator training programs for amine units, SRU, SWS, and other refinery units. Received a commendation for a corporate Helios award, the highest level of corporate technical achievement, for this work in 2011.
