Experience with Aluminium SA FRCP (Fatal Risk Control Protocols) especially requirements related to work where the firemen are involved for example, the requirements applicable to Light Vehicles, Working at Heights, Mobile Equipment, Hazardous Materials, Isolation, Confined space, Hot work and general lock out of fire systems (alarms, sprinklers, drenchers & foam systems. Responsible for scaffolding inspections on Aluminium SA site. Responsible for confined space permits/standby and general safety around the confined space. Responsible for all hot work safety & isolation of fire detection and protection systems for Aluminium SA Responsible for general safety in the hot work, confined space, working at heights areas as well as for monitoring of high risk work permits and the fire watch person while on duty. AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

My area of responsibility as a fire-officer in charge of my shift while working at Aluminium SA includes all sections and departments of Aluminium SA, both smelter areas, Aluminium SA harbor facilities and the overland conveyor system.

METAL FIRES:

I am well experience with fighting fires involving molten metals such as Aluminium and Cast Iron as I was trained at Aluminium SA and as I experienced these types of fires as a fireman working at Aluminium SA, FLAMMABLE LIQUID FIRES:

I am also experience and familiar with the flammable gas systems and areas within Aluminium SA, as I experience real fire incidents at both Aluminium SA smelters and received in house fire training at both Aluminium SA, and with the SASOL Natural gas emergency team when we trained as Aluminium SA proto team near the old Bayside Aluminium. The training involved teams from SASOL, Aluminum SA, Portnet and Richards Bay Fire.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE OF SOUTH 32 EMERGENCY PLANS: I am familiar with the responsibilities of the fire & emergency team during all emergencies related to Aluminium SA, as well as in the harbour areas under Aluminum SA control. These emergencies include but are not limited to the following emergencies:

4. RESCUE INCIDENTS (from equipment, heights, confined space, water and other) 5. MEDICAL EMERGENCY (first responder)

6. NATURAL DISASTERS (wind, water, earth quake)

7. MAJOR MACHINERY FAILURE (incident where life or property is at risk due to machine or equipment failure)

8. UNREST

The fire & emergency team respond to assist any injured person or attend to any fire during unrest and work closely with the local law enforcement and company security. 9. SPILLAGE’S. (Hazardous Material or none Hazardous Material) This includes the different fire fighting, rescue, environmental cleanup methods and the use of specialized equipment to conduct the different tasks professionally as required from a dedicated fire en rescue person. These include the safety requirements for the different departments and sections within Aluminium SA, and the port.

MUTUAL EMERGENCYASSISTANCE:

I responded to many fires at neighboring companies and or municipal facilities as part of the Aluminum SA agreement for assistance between companies. These include fires at Port Authority, FOSKOR, Richard Bay Municipality and Mondi Forestry.

MAIN JOB FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fire Officer in charge of the shift

Conduct plant wide fire risk and equipment inspections and recommend corrective actions.

Part of the Aluminium SA team looking after scaffolding and scaffold safety on site, as well as helping the HSE department in looking after the general safety of all employees, contractors and delivery persons within Aluminium SA, by stopping work where life is at risk and reporting it to the departmental HSE or supervisor for immediate correction.

Assisting Aluminium SA fire chief where needed in planning, training and advising employees and contractors on fire and emergency related safety issues.

Ensure the effective functioning of my team and shift during an emergency response for any of the areas under our responsibility or where required, e.g. Aluminium SA, Port and on the roads leading to these facilities.

To ensure I familiarize myself and the shift team with new hazards or situations that might arise during on site.

Participate with the training of the different fire team proto team member at Aluminium SA to ensure a smooth team work and good understanding of each other during any emergency that might arise and where we a r called to respond too.

Assist where needed during the installation of new fire fighting or detection equipment.

Provide input to the fire chief on how to improve the emergency response or action plan for employees, contractors and emergency team.

The training of the security control room operators to understand and know how to operate the fire and emergency detection and call out systems.

On a monthly basis evaluate and conduct fixed fire equipment, handheld fire equipment as well as fire safety inspections and audits for all departments under my responsibility as indicated by the fire chief.

Do daily inspections on the fire tender and its equipment to ensure it is at all times in a state of readiness for any emergency day or night.

Identify and assess different fire hazards and suggest corrective actions to the Fire Chief for his consideration and if needed to be implemented.

Respond to all fire alarms and emergencies as required and instructed.

Plant wide inspection and testing of fixed fire detection and protection installations within my area of responsibility e.g. Sprinklers, Drenchers, CO2 flooding systems, Hydrants, Fire detection systems etc.

Ensure all fire equipment on site comply with Local Authority, South African and Aluminium SA standards.

The writing of fire and emergency reports to the fire chief for his information and further action if required.

Assist with the presentation of fire training to employees and contractors as required by the fire chief.

Responsible for the Isolation and de-isolation of fixed fire systems and fire detection systems as per the request on the hot work or isolation permits issued by the different department HSE persons.

Assist HSE and the fire chief during HSE, Fire, Emergency or FRCP and other campaigns for Aluminium SA.

Responsible for the record keeping on my shift and the updating of the fire & emergency occurrence book as required by Aluminium SA procedures for both employee and contractor’s emergency related incidents.
