Resume:

ALEJANDRO E. MURILLO

San Diego, CA

SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

• Ambitious, motivated and detail-oriented mechanical design engineer with practical and extensive experience in the design field utilizing 3D CAD Solid Modeling and FEA to simulate, analyze, optimize and create functional products using different manufacturing processes.

• Outstanding understanding of engineering principles, working in vast of engineering setups to solve complex problems showing crucial skills like leadership, adaptability, and team-oriented, as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills in engineering fields like structural mechanics, dynamics, and thermal analysis. EDUCATION

University of California, Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara, CA)

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Dean's Honors Spring 2020 June 2020 ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE

University of California, Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara, CA) June 2019 - September 2019 Research Assistant (P.I. Dr. Bolin Liao)

• Estimated thermal properties of thin-film nano-scale GaAs semiconductor devices utilizing a mature laser-based technique called Transient Thermal Grating (TTG) to periodically heat wafer samples, while working in a clean room.

• Collected and analyzed data numerically in Matlab for epitaxial GaAs semiconductor wafers growth in silicon and phosphate substrates.

• Determined thermal diffusivity of samples and concluded their efficiency for applications in the optoelectronics field, where transistors of this compound have shown to be faster than silicon and are getting smaller and more efficient every year according to Moore’s Law.

• Presented research in the 2019 SHPE National Convention: Engineering Symposium. University of Texas at El Paso (El Paso, TX) June 2015 - July 2015 Research Intern (P.I. Dr. Isaac Azuz)

• Teamed up with Ph.D. candidates and achieved solutions for water and electricity efficiency.

• Collected data and proposed active solutions for: 1. Reducing the carbon footprint by 31%, by implementing a low weight glass bottle. 2. Slashing bottle packaging costs with the implementation of the new bottle, for savings of $227,000 a year in a zone with huge local economic impact and where 90% of Mexico’s wine is produced. PROJECTS

SONOS Heat (Santa Barbara, CA) September 2019 - June 2020 Design Lead (Senior Capstone Project: Solar Gain Simulator Rig)

• Researched extensively topics including heat transfer, radiation, solar emission spectrum and angles of attack reaching the Earth's surface.

• Solar Gain Simulator Rig mimics the varying irradiance from the sun, matching the maximum 1200 W/m^2, simulating any location and date in Earth, while moving the heat source in a hemisphere path of the sun’s elevation and azimuth angles.

• Designed a 295-component assembly in Solidworks of a solar simulator that tests the thermal resilience of SONOS outdoor product line.

• Designed the system’s enclosure packaging, and included the wiring and diagram schematics.

• Created a full detail 152-page design packet with project breakdown, drawings, GD&T drawings and safety operating procedures (SOP).

• Designed and simulated in COMSOL four FEA models of irradiance reaching the speaker using Heat Transfer and Laminar Flow models.

• Utilized FEA skills and knowledge in Solid Mechanics and Beam Optimization to design the arm with parametric failure models. Design and FEA Portfolio Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qQvMrjpRsoG1bjg6LRae91lC437S3zxr/view?usp=sharing Bongo Bot (Team Project) April 2019 - June 2019

• Designed and built a self-playing bongo robot that read songs from external memory and plays at different rhythms.

• Programmed in C++ with Arduino to play unique beats, utilizing two 3D printed arms designed in Solidworks, and operated by actuators. Compressed Air Motor (Machine Shop Project) September 2018 - December 2018

• Machined and assembled all components using a lathe, milling machine, drill press, between others.

• Programmed G-code to perform operations in milling and CNC machines. Racing Drone (Team Project) July 2017 - December 2017

• Led a team of engineers to build a drone that surpasses speeds of 70 mph.

• Soldered all micro-components achieving high quality using PCB, and tested voltage’s using continuity test.

• Identified and overcame two main complications of the original design: 1. Designed in Solidworks and 3D printed all landing gear and propellers to aid specific drone tasks. 2. Reprogrammed drone’s flight controller to adjust for an effective and smooth flight control. Project Portfolio Link: https://aemurillo2.wixsite.com/website COMPUTER SKILLS
