Technical Writing

Designed and developed user manuals, reference materials, online help, and software interfaces for a variety of commercial hardware and software products, including Unix-based HP software (HP-UX), tape storage systems, workflow management software, and source code control software.

Created and maintained documentation for business management processes, forms, and policies, including process flows, procedures, etc.

Developed training strategy, wrote, and updated training classes for telecom software products.

Project / Program Management

Managed production of documentation for Hewlett-Packard Enterprise networking products. This included creating/maintaining the doc plans, scheduling, and working with an international team to coordinate reviews, localization, and online publishing.

Managed development and production of customer documentation for over 50 HP consumer products (digital cameras and photo scanners). This included creating the documentation strategy, developing tactical plans, and planning / managing the budget. Lowered average development time for camera documentation from eight months to three months and lowered average project costs by over 40% using continuous process improvement.

Managed Early Marketing program for HP digital cameras, acting as a liaison between marketing, supply chain, and manufacturing to ensure timely delivery of camera prototypes and early review units to regional marketing partners and reviewers. Defined long-term strategy and processes and streamlined existing processes to achieve substantial cost savings.

Selected and managed external vendors (both local and international) for documentation, localization, and early marketing programs.

Managed a sheltered workshop for developmentally disabled clients. This included coordinating rehabilitation services for 150 clients, supervision of 11 staff members, negotiating contracts with industrial customers, engineering time studies, and serving as liaison to schools, community agencies, and the general public. Also developed a weekly in-service training program for staff and implemented a structured, measurable quality control program.

Served as Acting Admissions/Placement Director at Indiana Vocational Technical College. Problem Solving / Analysis

Coordinated a major university research project studying human information processing. This included managing lab operations (hiring, training, and supervision of research participants, performing all data collection for the project, and helping with the analysis of data.

Conducted annual national survey of cooperative education programs for a national research center. This included survey design, database development, and statistical analysis of results. Also assisted in developing research proposals, doing literature searches, and evaluating workshops.

Designed/wrote programs to query databases and analyze survey results for a national educational association. Also designed and developed databases for surveys and mailing lists.

Worked closely with HP service and support teams to provide service documentation for worldwide repair centers. Effectively used call center data to significantly improve documentation.

Helped to incorporate BMC Software products into HP OpenView IT/Operations software. This included training, documentation, support planning, beta testing, and general release management.

Regularly evaluated effectiveness of HP consumer documentation by conducting usability tests, monitoring support call data, and contributing to the content of Beta and Delta tests.

Awarded three patents for user interface products for HP digital cameras. Communications

Coordinated network of 17 employment/training agencies - gathered and published information from employers about local training needs, wrote a monthly newsletter, and marketed employment/training programs to employers.

Initiated, coordinated, and conducted numerous customer visits for HP documentation groups.

Planned, developed and maintained internal communications efforts in support of a HP-wide major change management initiative (establishing a set of common tools, standards, and processes across HP Services).

Developed and published general newsletters and directed communications to HP community affected by retirement of legacy software applications.
