The position is responsible for providing nursing care to sick or injured employees; handles medical related inquiries and educates employees on the prevention of sickness / diseases; dispenses appropriate medicine/s based on the employee’s complaint; evaluates filed sick leave (SL) form and validates the nature and duration of sickness prior to approval / disapproval; does inventory of medicines and medical supplies; does monthly reports. Job Description / Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Daily duties and responsibilities

1.1. Beginning of the day: to check order in the doctor’s office and consulting room. Switch on CBC machine and Reflotron. 1.1. Each patient has to complete and sign “Patient agreement”. Check vital signs, make entry in the nurse log book and escort the patient to the doctor. When the patient is leaving be sure that you have written in your log book all the tests, manipulation and medications given to the patient and he has received the originals of the blood/etc. tests. Copies of the tests given to the doctor or place in the pax log book

1.2 Every crew member must bring completed “Request to see the Doctor “signed by his/her head of department before to enter the doctor’s office. Crew will be given this completed by the doctor form back. Only follow up visits will be done without this form. In the crew list pay attention to the crew who is unfit and do not miss follow up visits. 1.3. Every late evening you send Pax Sick List & Crew Sick List (you can use Louis summery updated every day) 1.4 Daily revenue/Total for the cruise sum have to be sent to Company Physician 2. Documentations and procedures.

2.1. Accidents reports crew & pax – doctor completes the special form one hard copy will be left in the hospital and the original will be given to Safety Officer.

2.2 Referral for crew: In case a crew member has to be send to a specialist ashore: 1. Doctor will complete the form and proceed with arrangements, you will collect signature from Staff Captain and make sure crew member is gone for consultation and 2.3 Referral for pax for a visit to specialist ashore: 1. Doctor will arrange appointment, ambulance, helicopter when needed and complete the form. 2. Find social hostess and inform her accordingly

Make sure all charges are done before patient leaves the ship. This may vary according to the rules of the company and charging system on board.

2.6. Narcotics log book –By International and company rules and regulations narcotics must be kept locked in safety box. Every time when Doctor gives even 1 tablet from the list, you have to update: Narcotic list, make entry in the log, sign yourself, stamp, take signature from Doctor. Print in 2 copy of Drug’s declaration– one place in the folder, one put in the safe. Do not forget to add narcotics each time you receive them and in the list and in the appropriate page. N.B. Some of the ports will require the Drug’s declaration for clearance together with Health Declaration. Both of the forms on ship, prepared by the purser

3.1 Disable list –will be received from purser. Sometimes you update the list. 3.3 Sharp’s box- On an embarkation day in the morning before embarkation all cabin stewards have to bring full sharp’s boxes from their stations. Empty them and you will give that back to cabin stewards after 18:00. Each cabin steward has to make entry in the sharp’s box log book and sign when they bring and take the containers. 4.
