EXPERIENCE
C2Sense Diagnostics, Industrial Design Consultant September 2020-Februrary 2021
Science based firm specializing in diagnostic technology that enables smartphones to read immunoassays at a performance level that rivals laboratory-based testing.
Senior Industrial Design Consultant
I was responsible for all concept development and ideation for C2Sense's proprietary Halo™ Technology that enables connected diagnostics via smartphone for Point of Care testing. We developed an in-home testing diagnostic system (LFA) that is highly accurate, easy to use, and provides results in 15 minutes with minimal human interaction after biologic sample self-collection of nasal mucus. The team was comprised by Lateral Flow Scientists, Software, Engineering, and Industrial Design, all working in tandem to meet and exceed deliverables timetable. As the lead Industrial Designer, I developed several concepts (form-factors and user interface approaches) to gauge user satisfaction through reduction in use case error and improved testing accuracy. Due to my experience, I was additionally responsible for communications with tooling vendors for both prototype (P20) and production (hardened steel) molds, as well as assisting the MarCom department with the necessary graphics and data to develop a comprehensive IFU manual and on-screen videos to support FDA EUA submissions.
Flex International LTD, Innovation Services and Medical Division, Plano, TX July 2008-July 2020
Fortune 500 multinational manufacturer, 3rd world largest Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) and Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) with annual revenue of >$24B.
Senior Manager Innovation Services
Directed all new Product Development leading a multi-disciplinary team of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers of 5-10 people running concurrent projects with budgets ranging from USD$150K to $2MM meeting tight timelines. Interacted with clients’ corporate stakeholders and executed design activities aligned with project requirements. Played instrumental role in several Global Design projects in EU, North America, and Asia. (Clients include ABB, Sanofi, Smith & Nephew, Nestlé, Shire Medical, Magaw Medical, ADC)
Key Accomplishments:
Teach Pendant (control box for programming the motions of a robot): Execute design based on project requirements applying Human Factors & Usability methodology, featuring new formfactor for a global robotics company (ABB). The human-centric device features repair-and-replace technology, enabling reduction in line downtime and improvement of process efficiency.
PICO 1.6 Single Use Negative Pressure Wound Therapy System (sNPWT): Designed and developed a new generation wound treatment for canister-free portable Negative Wound Therapy Pumps in a portable handheld form factor; analyzed human machine interface (HMI) functions to define best-in-class solution. The devices ease-of-use and portability made it available to a wider range of outpatients as a quieter and cost-effective solution.

Invented and patented a fully mechanical spring delivery system to deliver fluids at varying rates by nesting spring and adjusting each springs’ ‘K’ value. This idea enables a reduction in size for fully mechanical (spring-based) systems for wearable/portable devices. The system can be fully mechanical, or may incorporate electro-mechanical features for a more tailored delivery strategy.
Created and Integrated HF&E comprehensive guidelines into the Design and Development Cycles by collaborating with internal and external HF&E professionals leading to uncover underserved needs, usability issues, and potential use-hazards.
Supported collaborative effort developing Wearable Embedded Devices that monitor physiological markers, and retrofitting electronics into the US Olympic Team blazers used in 2016 Rio Olympics (partnership with Ralph Lauren Corporation).
Improved clients’ product time-to-market and time-to-scale by optimizing critical components during product prototyping and revisions phases by collaborating with Engineering groups (Mechanical, Electronics, System and Quality Control).
