RESUME
February 2015 to present: Medical writer/copyeditor/proofreader for Cosmic Strands LLC in Wilmington, DE, and also in India. This is a subcontractor for Elsevier, the world’s largest medical textbook publisher. In this position, working remotely, I proofread, edit, and sometimes rewrite chapters in all areas of clinical medicine and maintain style sheets for all projects. For Cenveo Publisher Services, I also edited/rewrote several nonfiction self-help books, one of which is now selling on Amazon.
In addition, during the same period, I did “language editing” for Accdon LLC in Waltham, MA, whose clients are mainly Chinese researchers needing help in putting their papers into English.
December 2005 to January 2015: Freelance copyeditor for publishers including Elsevier, McGraw-Hill, Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Oxford University Press, Princeton University Press, Marcel Dekker, Taylor & Francis, Cenveo Publisher Services, and others, editing mainly college textbooks in the biological sciences.
April 2001 to December 2005: Senior copyeditor/proofreader at Vicom/FCB in New York City, editing, rewriting, and proofreading promotional and educational materials for several major pharmaceutical companies. The intended audiences included the lay public as well as the medical profession.
March 1996 to March 2001: Copyeditor/proofreader at Lavey/Wolff/Swift Inc. in New York City, the medical branch of BBDO Advertising, which also produced both promotional and educational materials for the pharmaceutical industry.
Concurrent Freelance: Copyeditor, Health Professions Division, McGraw-Hill Book Company, editing mainly medical textbooks.
August 1986 to July 1989: Full-time mother/homemaker.
March 1984 to July 1986: Staff writer, Crowell-Collier, Inc., New York City. Wrote articles on all sorts of subjects for the Student Merit Encyclopedia, intended for a secondary school readership.
July 1972 to March 1984: Complete McGraw-Hill’s editing training program and served as supervising editor in M-H’s Professional and Reference Books Department and later in the College Department, finally working for a year on the Encyclopedia of World Art.
