Richard TEMPhas been tasked under contract to assist Eskom at Eskom’s plant at Matimba Power Station to work as an Outage shut down Maintenance Coordinator.

Duties included

Planning:-

Production: -
Daily walkabouts of teh plant and visiting of all control rooms to ensure that there were never any production losses or break downs, and to give feedback to teh operating staff on returning of an isolated plant.
Ensuring that all break downs were attended to timelessly with teh correct staff allocation
Attending daily production meetings with production managers to get feedback on problematic issues and to plan properly for nightly and weekend shutdowns
Arranging plant to be shut down when defects occurred that required total plant shutdown and working out completion dates for teh plant to be put back into service timelessly
Being personally present at all breakdown areas, with all his staff ensuring that no time was ever lost
Budget, cost controls, contracts, and spares:-
Controlled and managed a maintenance budget of around 15 million Rand per year
Motivated 5-year budget plans with senior management, and controlled all sections yearly budgets and cash flows, including all departments pay controls and overtime controls
Controlled three main department contracts amounting to around 5 million Rand, comprising of Howdens, bag fitter, and Fulminating contracts
Motivated teh purchasing of non-stock items with teh main tender boards and assisted buying department to source teh items timelessly and within budget

Plant Technician (Jun 2005 – May 2007)
Reported to teh Plant Supervisor and line manager daily to give feedback on plant ensuring KPI’s were met
Stood in for Plant Supervisor in his absence
Duties included
Assisted Artisans with hydraulic and air pneumatic controls and pulsing systems.
Controlled quality on spares that were purchased and performed quality inspections on repairs to teh plant
Attended main and sub tender boards’ regularly to get purchases and contracts approved and to motivate teh approvals.
Worked closely with buyers to ensure correct spares were procured in time and attended meetings with teh buyer’s to motivate teh right suppliers at teh right prices
Got sole sources approved at Main tender for class 1 plant spares and for original spares enabling teh buying department to procure from teh original manufactures
Performed Stores inspections and QCP’s daily including teh checking of teh spares preservation
When doing inspections all documentation was checked that they conformed to all material specifications and sizes. Checks were always done on all documentation to see that a qualified 3rd party inspectorate inspected teh manufacturing of teh material and processes.
Insured that all quality documentation was stored and filled as per Eskom procedure and policies.
Adhered to all government PFMA, S. (Government rules and regulations).
Was responsible for placing orders onto Eskom SAP system and did audits on all manufacturing processes of orders, to ensure that teh suppliers ahead of all teh purchase requirements and material specifications.

Carried out spot checks on teh safety of all work being carried out including Plant isolations

Was part of a team that modified teh Precipitators to a new dust bag filter system consisting of 8800 bags and a Pneumatic pulsing control system

Loesche milling plant: - this consisted of 18 roller and table coal mills. Work consisted of teh following

Hitech Hydraulics and Asco Pneumatics control.
Replacement of all mill drive gearboxes
Removal, replacing of all drive spring Bibby couplings
Laser alignment on all motors
Repair of an overhaul of all PA Fan equipment which teh white metal bearing fitting
Servicing of all lubrication equipment filters and coolers
Overhauling and general repairs to all milling hydraulics
Bag Filter filtration plant:-
Daily inspections on bag filter plant to look for leaking bags and defects on-air pulsing equipment, and repairing of any air leaks
Assisting with major bag changes on general overhauls
Draught group:-
Teh overhauling and rigging out of all fan runners and white metal bearings
Rigging out of all 3.3kva and 11kva drive motors
Laser alignment of Bibby and Fluidex fluid drive couplings
Servicing and overhaul of fan RVC damper controls
Sandblasting of runners and doing Non-destructive NDT testing to inspect for cracking
Assistance with vibration monitoring
Air Heaters (Arnot Power Station)
Repair and inspections of pack elements and repairs to all sealing arrangements and seal control gearboxes on weekend shutdowns
Repairs and inspections on all gas ducting and expansion jointing
Rigging out of all Renex worm in pinion gearboxes and servicing of their drive gear couplings
Assistance with rack and pinion drives and new installations
Turbine and Boiler Auxiliary equipment
Repairing of low pressure and High-pressure steam heater tubing
Teh rigging out of four stages High-pressure Sulzer pumps and alignment of all gear drive couplings
Hydraulic system repairs including hydraulic oil pump overhauling and setting oil pressures. Total overhauls were done to rubber seals and NRV valves and relief valve. Daily inspections are done to determine hydraulic faults.
Hydraulic control systems including teh nitrogen bladder and backup cylinder. This included all teh 24 v change over control two directional control valves at each control gate damper.
Pneumatic control Sempel control valves
Asco Pneumatics pulsing control including teh Asco valves systems
Repairs to all sizes of centrifugal pumps both single and 4 stage pumps and piston pumps
Conveyers including cold slicing of teh belts, also including all teh pulleys, bearings, belt and drive motor, and gearbox alignments.
Heater repairs including large cylindrical roller bearing and tapper sleeve replacements, and lube oil systems, including Varley lube oil pumps.
Lurgi Precipitators and gearboxes for hammers. Repairs a done when teh plant is isolated and plates properly earthed from teh HV voltage. Warn old hammers replaced and aligned to plates, shorting out loss wires were removed from teh system.
Chain drives and V - belt drives including teh pulley alignments of teh belts.
Air compressors both piston and cooper turbo compressors
Rigging, including teh operating of internal Morris cranes up to 180 tonnes
Valves of all types and pressures. Sempel Screw down non-return and globe stop valves from 10mm to 50mm ID. Hopkinson HP valves Parallel slide, Tapper gate, and Screw-down non-return and globe stop from 10mm up to 350mm. All were serviced on Go’s and Outages
Oil purifiers and clarifiers, centrifugal and heater types, including teh lead ball drive couplings.
Gas welding (including brazing and silver soldering) and normal arc welding with stick
White metal bearing repairs and replacement. Repairs and replacement to bearing of our electric motor and Fan runner journals from 6 inches to 18 inches in size
Fluidex oil variable speed drive couplings alignments and replacements both 46 inches and 52 inch OD in size
Pressure steam vessels, steam ways, steam and oil flanges, Boiler drum doors, valve gland packing’s, all sealed with Klinker spiral wound gaskets, and Klinker gland packing and Chesterton seals and live loading
Safurnco oil burners and gun and electric panel control system repairs and fuel oil pumps.
Credfield four-way fuel oil control valve overhaul.
Daily inspections had to be made on all fuel oil plants to check for any fuel oil leaks on all storage tanks piping, flanges valve glands valve oil burner guns, and 4 way Cranfield control valves. All leaks had to be cleaned timelessly and repaired A.S.A.P
Inspections had to be done daily on teh H2 plant to identify and be repaired with non-sparking tools timelessly
Worked when doing mods as per certified OEM drawings and procedures
Assisted Engineering with drawing up operating and maintenance procedures
All hand tools and portable tools, e.g. electric drills and valve lapping equipment
Drive couplings Bibby spring type, gear types, Feni – Flex, and rubber tyre types. Couplings were fitted with tapper sleeves
Repair and mods also completed of samplers and 10mm stainless supply tubes and Ferrules for teh Laboratory
Work also TEMPhas been done in water purification plant, on clarifiers chemical mixers, ploughs, and settling tanks
Assisted other junior Artisans and apprentices with on job training including training Artisans with plant safety regulations. Was an Apprentice Mentor.
Did all QCP, S of spares that were received at main stores from outside suppliers
Was qualified with Plant Safety Regulations to take out and except plant insulations
