SUMMARY

For over 30 years, I have been serving the banking and financial services industries as both a banker and consultant (including acting as a temporary executive), providing expertise and guidance through various roles in credit risk/regulatory management, credit administration, and lending, as well as writing, reviewing, proofreading, and evaluating various types of documents. I have assisted clients in assessing deficiencies and recommending solutions that aid in enhancing credit risk management and asset protection. My experience and background can be particularly valuable when preparing for regulatory examinations, audits, insurance company and ratings agencies visits, acting as a liaison to regulators and investors, and dealing with credit risk issues, economic bubbles, and general downturns. A sampling of my career management experience includes: Member of an executive management team that over several years improved regulatory compliance and financial performance, which resulted in the company’s stock price rising from $5 to $54 per share and the removal of regulatory consent agreements. Developed, implemented and managed the Credit Administration department, including policy, oversight, controls, risk management, and reporting. Managed the Loan Review function for banks with collective assets in excess of $12B. Commercial, Retail, and Mortgage Lender and Loan Administrator for $6B+ bank. Liaison to federal and state bank regulators; investors, investment bankers, and insurance companies; and ratings agencies.

I have worked both independently and for national, eminent financial services consulting firms with clients including banks, non-bank lenders, insurance companies and private equity firms. By way of example, I have worked on projects for The Secura Group, LECG, KPMG, FTI, and Promontory. More recent projects have involved regulatory examination preparation, compliance with regulatory policies and laws; credit risk management/loan review; purchase and investment due diligence; Commercial Real Estate loan evaluation; ALLL/reserve process evaluation and management; retail, mortgage, and commercial credit administration and process; credit policy assessment and revision; and management assessments. Chief Credit Officer, Advanta Corp. 2001-2007

Designed, implemented, and managed the Credit Administration Group function, as well as all credit processes, for holding company and its two subsidiary banks. Key functional areas included asset quality, credit policy development and compliance, regulatory compliance and examinations, ALLL/reserve management, portfolio reporting, and loss forecasting. Represented the banks to FDIC, OCC, and state examiners; ratings agencies and investment banks; equity investors; securitization note holders; and insurers in discussions regarding credit quality and risk standards, underwriting, credit process, and regulatory compliance.

Direct oversight authority for and advisor to business and department leaders within marketing, underwriting, customer/account management, customer service, and collections for all credit and related regulatory policy matters.

Responsible for regulatory compliance and credit oversight of $8B sub-prime residential mortgage portfolio, and guided the credit team through transition in the sale of the business. Also responsible for regulatory compliance and credit oversight of the $800MM small-ticket leasing portfolio, and guided a team through the 5+ year wind-down of the business as part of the company’s strategic alternatives. Credit Review Manager, First Interstate Bank, NA (now Wells Fargo) 1985-1996 I managed the banks’ Credit Review function, including training and supervising professional and clerical staff. Directly supervised reviews of all asset portfolios, including Corporate Commercial, Commercial Real Estate, Gaming, Agribusiness, Problem/Workout Assets, Private Banking, Retail (auto, mortgage, home equity, etc.), and Investments. I coordinated the daily review and risk assessment of various complex approved commercial and retail loans. Developed and implemented policies and procedures for the daily review function in various affiliate banks. I reported results of daily and portfolio risk assessment reviews to senior bank, region and holding company management, and bank boards of directors, including recommendations for current and future risk mitigation. Acted as liaison to federal regulators during bank regular, special, and Shared National Credit (SNC) examinations. Coordinated Credit Review activities with banks in other regions. Developed system for tracking and reporting credit policy exceptions, and implemented the system in all four regions. I performed regular and ad hoc special projects for Southwest Region and Bancorp (holding company) management. And acted as the regional Regulation O Officer for Loan Review.
