Project Summary: Care-first Blue Web Program is supported by the ITS application which is the technical software, data formats, and procedures that allow Plans to access, send, receive and control claims information. ITS acts as backend for Blue Square application, it runs mainframe jobs for the input provided in the screen and process the particular claim Blue Access is accessed by personnel with various roles such as member, Provider, Employee and Super user. Based on the security roles and their privileges each one of them has a specific set of functions that can be carried out in the system.

Roles and Responsibilities in the project:

Actively used COBOL, DB2 and JCL to maintain day to day environment

Provided 24*7 critical application support in ALM (defects) and ServiceNow (Incident reporting)

Project Summary: Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Blue Access System is an online service that allows the members to view their account information quickly and securely. With Blue Access, members can establish a Blue Access account, verify benefits including eligibility and deductible/coinsurance information, check medical/ behavioral health/ dental and prescription drug claims change their mailing or email address, order ID card, check their Explanation of Benefits, add new dependents, giving authorization to primary member and much more.

System Programmer

Project Summary: NDB (Network Data Base) is United Healthcare’s national provider database that contains data for both participating and non-participating provider information. Today, Provider demographic and contract information is maintained in multiple platforms, by multiple teams resulting in redundant and highly complex manual synchronization activities. NDB is the true source of data for the entire provider network. NDB Captures Demographic information (Name, DOB, place of service, ph. number, and address). For participating provider, it maintains Credentialing data, Contract details, Reimbursement details - Fee schedules, Facility rate tables, Capitation). NDB feeds demographic info to various interfacing systems – COSMOS, TOPS, IDT (interactive desk help).

Roles and Responsibilities in the project:

Actively participated in Requirement gathering, design, and development of various projects in NDB.

Extensively used Cobol, JCLs, CICS, VSAM, NDM, DB2 to maintain the day to day environment

Provided refactor and enhancements to existing Programs.

Involved in the preparation of the technical specification documents.

Deployed code in production and supported the post deployment issues.

United Health Group, INDIA Apr 2008 – Apr 2012.

COSMOS Sr. Developer

Project Summary: COSMOS (Comprehensive On-line Software for Management and Operational Support) is the strategic platform for Optus, the technology arm of UHG, to administer membership and process claims. United Health Group uses COSMOS to manage and support millions of members and thousands of employers and providers. COSMOS processes employer group and member enrollment, physician and hospital claims, provider contracts and payments, explanations of benefits, and premium billing. COSMOS is the backbone application for most of the Medicare and Medicaid plans and is primarily based on IBM mainframe technology. The scope of the project is to maintain and enhance the future changes to the COSMOS suite of applications. This includes Application Development and Enhancement performed during each quarterly release of the various application changes made into COSMOS.

COSMOS Development:

The COSMOS ICD10 development activity includes modifying the components or programs in the current system to support the new ICD10 code format. Currently ICD9 is active and almost entire COSMOS Claim processing system programs are being remediated to accept ICD10 codes.

COSMOS Modernization:

The COSMOS modernization and Tricare initiatives expands the five functional fields identified. One of the five functional fields is for Tricare and rest four functional fields are for Modernization. The Tricare initiative includes Fee Schedule amount field expansion from 7 digits to 10 digits. The Modernization fields include Claims disallow / denial code from 3 digits to 4 digits, Review code from 3 digits to 5 digits, Claims Adjustment code from 3 digits to 4 digits, DRG Number from 3 digits to 5 digits. All the fields which fall under five functional label fields and the impacted programs are identified.

Cobol, CICS, DB2 was widely used technical skills in this project. Both batch and online modules were developed iteration basis. Field expansion has involved extensive application support to determine the impact of changing the length across the application including critical reports and CICS screens.

Production is the key requirement as COSMOS is a online portal for member, provider and employees.

Roles and Responsibilities in the project:

Performed various roles as Developer, Senior Developer and Team lead during the tenure of this project.

Worked on several critical projects like HIPAA 5010 Remediation, Conversion to ICD10 and various SPRF’s in COSMOS as a Sr. developer and Team lead.

Actively participated in Requirement gathering, design, and development of various projects in COSMOS.

Preparation of Technical specifications based on existing functionality and requirements.

Knowledge Transfer to the offshore team with business functionality and the new requirements

Worked closely with the front-end team for developing new CICS web services for server transactions.
