Lead Process Engineer for a one of a kind 5200 BPSD Renewable Diesel Plant during front-end engineering and estimating phase. Responsible for supporting effort to integrate three different Licensors’ Technology packages and developed supporting OSBL systems. Supervised half a dozen process engineers, attended Licensor reviews, developed data sheets and went out to vendors for specialty equipment and support technologies. Supported Technology consultants with effort to select and highlight appropriate technologies for consideration. Within the facility are the following area/units in which my efforts were directly involved:

Pretreatment of vegetable oil and animal fats; Hydrolysis of the triglycerides to free fatty acids (FFA); Hydro-Treating FFA, then Hydro-Isomerization to produce Renewable Diesel and Renewable Naphtha; Hydrogen production via Steam Methane Reforming; Wastewater Treatment; Designed and integrated OSBL steam and cooling water systems; Specified Nitrogen, Natural gas/fuel, demineralized water, instrument air and tankage requirements

• GSCaltex CDMtbe Revamp Project – Yeosu, South Korea 2018

Process lead for Revamp project. Directed and supervised Senior and junior engineers both recent hires and completed deliverables on schedule. Designed new CDMtbe reactive distillation column and evaluated exiting equipment at revamp conditions.

• PETRONAS RAPID – SCC, Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia –2018

Supervised CC7 crew during loading of proprietary CDMtbe catalyst structures in reactive distillation column designed by Lummus Technology. Prepared presentation to client at end of loading hand-off to client.

• Bangkok Synthetics Co., LTB (BST), Thailand – 2018-Present

Process lead for the Butene-1 Separation Unit to product 34 kTA of 99.1 wt% Butene-1. Worked with Technology manager to develop B-1 simulation, heat and material balance and PFDs. Coordinated efforts with Gurgaon office & Woodlands to meet schedule requirements for deliverables. Lead P&ID review with client in Bloomfield. Developed Supervisor Operations Manual for Unit.

Major projects while at R&G are the following:

• PT Petrokimia Butadiene, B1/MTBE Project, Indonesia (PBI) – 2017-2018.

Process lead for the integrated CDMtbe®, SELOP® SHU, and Butene-1 Recovery units designed to produce 43 kTA of 98.5 wt% min. polymer grade Butene-1 and 127.7 kTA of MTBE by-product using Raffinate-1 feedstock from PBI’s Butadiene Extraction Unit.

Worked with Technology managers to develop MTBE and B-1 simulations, heat and material balances and PFDs. Coordinated efforts with Gurgaon office, Bloomfield and Woodlands to meet schedule requirements for deliverables. Lead P&ID review with client in The Woodlands office.

• Valero, CDAlyky Project: Depentanizer Area, St. Charles, USA – 2016-2017.

Participated in the design of the Depentanizer upfront of CDAkly® Unit. The objective of the CDHydro® Depentanizer Unit is to hydrogenate pentadienes to C5 olefins and make the cut between 2-methyl-2-butene and cyclopentene. This unit processes 20,000 BPD of incoming Naphtha feed from FCC unit. Activities included simulation, Depentanizer sizing and PFD development.

• Nova Chemicals, PSA Unit Start-up, Joffre, Alberta, Canada – 2015.

Participated in start-up of a CB&I designed PSA (Pressure Swing Absorption) Unit from November 3-8, 2015. Initial start-up experiencing impurities break-through with possibility of damaging analyzer. Data trends collected over the first 3 days of start-up demonstrated that the feed control valve was suppling erroneous information. The valve was re-checked and vent tube not properly connected. After valve correctly aligned, the start-up progressed and client satisfied with PSA Unit performance.

• AltaGas Townsend Project - FEED Level Study - 2014-2016.

Facility to recover propane and heavier components form raw natural gas and condensate produced by Painted Pony Petroleum Ltd. and Shell Canada Energy. Ltd. The plant designed to produce deethanized NGL, stabilized condensate and residue gas.

Facility included the following systems: inlet separation, condensate heating, stabilizer, inlet compression, glycol dehydration and regeneration, NGL Recovery, refrigeration, residue gas compression, de-ethanizer column and hot oil system. Developed simulation, heat and material balance.

• Toysali FEED, Midrex Technologies, Inc. (MTI) for Tosyali Algerié SPA – 2014-2016.

Design of Natural Gas Pre-treatment Unit (NGPTU) for the direct reduction iron plant that Midrex designed and constructed. The NGPTU utilizes Randall Gas Technologies cryogenic Joule-Thomson (J-T) process to remove heavy hydrocarbons from the wet rich inlet feed to produce product gas.

NGPTU Plant includes inlet gas handling, molecular sieve dehydration and heavy hydrocarbon removal. Developed simulation, PFDs, heat and material, sized equipment, preliminary sizing of molecular sieve and worked with vendor for final sizing, sized PSVs and flare header.

June 2013 – May 2014

CB&I Oil and Gas, 2 Riverway Drive Houston

• Golden Pass Products LNG Export Project, Converting existing gasification facilities into a Liquefaction Export facility, Sabine Texas – 2013-2014.

Pre-FEED activities: Developed initial schematic for steam system. Worked with client, OSBL experts and technology licensors to refine design and controls. When built, this will be the first LNG facility with a steam system. Created UFDs, sized lines, sized equipment while supervising three engineers. Developed steam ladder, which completes heat and material balance around the deaerator. Cooperated with systems groups to ensure P&IDs reflected design and UFDs. Contacted major equipment vendors for design and pricing.

FEED Optimization Studies: Completed seven steam optimization studies to determine best arrangement for major sections within the steam system determined by CAPEX and OPEX.

• Cameron LNG LLD – Converting existing gasification plant into a Liquefaction Facility – 2013-2013.

Developed LNG Production Model in excel to verify new facility will meet guaranteed production for life of plant. Model utilizes client-supplied equations predicting LNG rundown rates as a function of temperature. Model predicts LNG rundown, feed rate, propane and mixed refrigerant power, helper motor power and fuel gas consumption. These rates are based on a given maintenance schedule outlined by client.

Along with other engineers, developed datasheets for Mercury Absorber, H2S Scavenger, Ground Flare, Wet and Dry Knockout Drums. Involved in updating P&IDs and PFDs, Basis of Design and Process Description for Feed Verification.
