EXPERIENCE

Software Engineer, Target (contractor) Brooklyn Park, MN 4/2018 – 12/2020

Worked on Target Red Card migration project to convert Target’s credit card Statements and Letters systems from a mainframe system to a Java/Oracle system. I researched job flows and data flows, using JCL, COBOL programs and CA-7 to assist Java programmers to determine how to create a client-server set of programs and processes to replace the existing mainframe systems that would print credit card statements and letters.

Designed and wrote JCL and modified conversion programs to extract ACAPS data, converting the VSAM files into flat files and ftp’ing them from mainframe platform to client server platform. This involved extracting, transforming, and sending over 18 years of daily credit card application information (over 6,700 files). Used JCL, Syncsort and various parameters and Endeavor to create a system to partially automate this process. Part of this work also included cleaning up data discrepancies that arose when the data formats changed or data anomalies were discovered. I also tracked this process on an Excel spreadsheet which was downloaded to SharePoint.

Researched hundreds of mainframe reports on CA-View/CA-Delivery to determine report formats, layout, data requirements, run frequency, and report distribution while assisting Java programmers in determining how to re-create these reports on a client-server platform.

Worked on migrating the Standard Batch process from mainframe platform to Java platform, replacing VSAM files with text files and Json files for approximately 125 record types.

Programmer Analyst, USPS (contractor) Eagan, MN 5/2016 – 2/2018

Worked on Payroll modernization project to convert a USPS Rural Mail Carriers payroll subsystem that is used to perform rural route evaluation that is used to calculate Mail Carriers’ pay. System is being converted from a mainframe VSAM file system to an Oracle database distributed system. Created several Visio diagrams showing data flows between various subsystems. Created detailed Excel spreadsheets on over 100 reports listing report creation, timing, content and distribution.

Designed and coded a COBOL program to extract data from a VSAM file (approximately 7 million records), reformatting the data and copied the file onto a DVD to ship to St. Louis to load into Oracle tables. Created a report showing data discrepancies so they could be resolved.

Analyzed several COBOL programs and FOCUS programs to determine what fields needed to be extracted from Oracle tables and put on mainframe files so other downstream systems could continue to function in the same way when the original feeder files are no longer created.
