Field Work: Sociology of Childhood and Family Spring 2011

Conducted research into the differences between low- and high-income children in classrooms through in-the-field involvement at both Brown Elementary, a low-income public school in downtown Jackson, Mississippi and Madison Elementary, a private Catholic school in an affluent suburb of the same city. Guided a pair of children through a series of projects aimed at self-expression and reflection on their relationships with their families and their peers. Compared the results to see if a correlation between income level and social adjustment existed.

Psychology course in London and Munich, Summer 2012: Completed four hour course, PSYCH 4320 (Psychology of fear and terrorism) in London, England and Munich, Germany over the span of two and a half weeks. In addition to coursework analyzing the psyche and intent of individuals who engage in terroristic behavior, as well as the effects on their victims and societies, we visited sites of terrorist attacks and human related disasters from throughout the past century. Prepared and delivered three twenty-minute presentations on individuals and groups with terroristic intentions.

Eagle Scouts of America 2010

NCAA Lacrosse 2010-2014

Midfield/defense-Member of a collegiate level Lacrosse team. Demonstrated excellent time management skills by balancing a 20+ hour per week practice, training, competition, and travel schedule, in addition to full time academics. Demonstrated fortitude and resilience through adversity through beginning as a brand-new player in my freshman year on a team with a less than optimal number of players. The result was the occasional inability to sub off of the field during games, resulting in playing through the entire duration of games without rest, an extremely atypical and physically demanding endeavor. Despite these restrictions and the painful nature of this situation, I stayed loyal to the team while many other teammates came and left.

Internship: Alpha K-9 2013-2014

Completed internship at Alpha K-9 training center in Jackson Mississippi, learned training regimens for police dogs and conditioning systems for household dog behavior. Maintained sanitation of kennels and feeding schedules for up to twenty dogs of varying dispositions at a time.

Spanish immersion course in Costa Rica Summer 2014

Completed and tested out of two four-hour Spanish courses in San Jose, Costa Rica: 3120-01 (Written and Oral expression), and 3520-01 (Costa Rican Literature) to finish a minor in Spanish. Lived for a month with a local Spanish speaking family for full immersion into the culture. Participated in extra-curricular activities, including cultural dance lessons and soccer, building networks amongst the locals by applying the conversational skills learned in the classes. Maintained a seven-hour per day schedule for the duration of four weeks to cover all aspects of coursework and testing.

Spanish immersion course in Costa Rica, Summer 2013: Completed six hours of Spanish courses in San Jose, Costa Rica, including: Spanish 2000 (Advanced Spanish) and Spanish 2320 (Spanish in Community Service). Lived for a month with a local Spanish speaking family, attending classes at a Spanish language school. Fulfilled requirements for the Community Service course through a volunteer program at both an orphanage and a retirement home in San Jose. At the orphanage, I worked with a selected child for four hours two times per week for the duration of the month, providing support and a healthy role model to help in their development while honing my ability to speak the language. At the retirement home I worked with a group to provide companionship and activities for elderly for four hours two times each week, engaging in the much more difficult endeavor of communicating with the elderly in their language, demonstrating patience and understanding when they had difficulty expressing themselves or communicating their thoughts clearly.
