Academic Projects

Finite element analysis on the dynamics of stationary and rotating FGM circular discs (December 2020)

• The FEA of fixed and rotating circular disc structures is conducted using a 2D sector element to study the static displacements, natural frequencies, and time-domain responses.

• The mode shapes are analyzed for different boundary conditions. Campbell diagrams are plotted from which the critical speeds of the disc are observed.

• Advanced composite materials such as functionally graded materials(FGM) are considered for the analysis. Design and Fabrication of Geneva wheel-based Auto-Roll punching machine (March 2017)

• The project is specially designed for automatic punching in metal sheets. A study is conducted to introduce automation in industries.

• This project's major components are dc motor, cam arrangement, chain-drive, Geneva mechanism, and punching tool.

• The study's main aim is to decrease the time and cost of automation in the industry by using a simple Geneva wheel mechanism.

Projects

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances of a Butterfly valve Assembly, (December 2020) Assembly tolerance analysis on Butterfly valve Assembly system

• Achieved a detailed understanding of rules, symbols, form tolerances, Datums, Modifiers & Virtual conditions.

• Worked on Bonus tolerances, MMC & LMC modifiers.

• Worked on orientation tolerance, profile tolerance & composite position tolerances Automotive Sheet Metal Design– BIW components using NX CAD, (November 2020) Engineering design of Inner & outer panel of the hood using NX CAD

• Design of Hood inner panel as per Euro NCAP regulations. Took into account the forces dissipated by frontal crash and pedestrian crash safety and developed embosses accordingly.

• Developed both wrap-around and wrap-in hood. Designed appropriate hinge, latch & striker reinforcement. Based on the hinge axis determined the latch & striker positions.

• Took into account the manufacturing process and incorporated appropriate tool tolerance for stamping & hemming requirements in the design.

Design of Front Fender using NX CAD

• The fender's styling data determined the side reference line to define the respective wrap-around or wrap-in hood.

• Designed the drip area, bumper mount area, sill mount & A-pillar mount Design & development of Roof of an automotive car using NX CAD

• Design the ditch area to join the roof with the body side. Considered heat distortion criteria, snow load criteria, and thereby calculating the number of bow roofs required and Bow roofs' position.

• The front roof rail, center roof rail & rear roof rail reinforcements are modeled by considering the front & rear-view criteria. Design & development of Tailgate using NX CAD

• Followed the design methodology and sketched the tailgate inner panel, emboss definition, hinge, and latch placement.

• Incorporated design of sealing flange, determining and designing the gas stay position and reinforcements.

• Considered & designed rear wiper mount & back door trim part as per requirements. Mold design for a CPU fan case and exhaust fan using SOLIDWORKS, (September 2020)

• The core and cavity blocks for the CPU fan case and exhaust fan are designed in the SOLIDWORKS.

• The optimal parting line, shut-off surface, and the parting surfaces are investigated. For easy removal of the part, the sliders are modeled inside the core and cavity blocks.

• A study on the gating system, runner, and sprue location is conducted, and the optimal location is chosen. The mold balance study is conducted.

Injection mold flow analysis using Autodesk MOLDFLOW (August 2020) Design and flow analysis of Injection mold of the plastic tray using Autodesk MOLDFLOW

• Operation of Moldflow inputs and outputs of the Tool. Gate location identification. Fill, Flow and warp analysis.

• Process settings Guidelines for accurate results. Result analysis for fill and wrap. Cooling circuit design.

• A study on optimal characteristics of the process parameters is conducted by varying the parameters. Publication & Presentation

A comparison of the non-conforming and conforming sector finite element for free vibration of circular discs is presented at the ICE3MT-2020 conference held at CVR college of engineering, Hyderabad, on 19th - 20th October 2020. The paper is accepted and published in Material's Today Proceedings. (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.matpr.2020.09.145) Design of geneva wheel based auto-roll punching machine is published in IJERT journal Volume 5 Issue:3, March - 2017 (https://www.irjet.net/archives/V4/i3/IRJET-V4I346.pdf) Software Packages
