As a charismatic person who has learnt to adapt very quickly to new environments, I have learnt that connecting with people of different backgrounds is essential to growth and is a key element to business success. During my 3 years of SAICA articles, I have developed the ability to work under pressure, to work with people of different ages and backgrounds, to manage teams and to work on different projects simultaneously. I’ve also been exposed to various sectors/industries in finance, including accounting, tax, and auditing.

The skills I have developed includes leadership, patience, communication, endurance and emotional maturity. I believe these skills, in addition to my personality will aid me in my dream to become a fully qualified chartered accountant and to one day start my own practice as an accounting/tax consultant. I also believe that in the process of fulfilling my dreams, I’ll aid all those in my journey to achieve their dreams in any way possible. Currently I am available for employment in any sector involving finances

(financial accounting, tax and auditing). During the COVID-19 pandemic I have kept myself busy by completing my post-graduate diploma in applied accounting (CTA level 2).

Outline:

During my SAICA articles at Exceed, I was exposed to auditing, tax and financial accounting, as the company had various clients that required different engagements and thus I was fortunate enough to have a broad exposure to different elements of the finance industry. Key responsibilities:

- Leading audit engagements and performing comprehensive audit work

- Completing tax returns

- Preparing financial statements for clients

- Summarising bank statements, creditor statements and other financial data to compile ledgers and trial balances.

- Compiling tax computations

- Performing creditors, bank, debtors and VAT reconciliations

- Performing income tax reconciliations

- Documenting audit findings and presenting findings to management

- Training the new SAICA trainees.

Key achievements/skills:

- Ability to manage people of different backgrounds during my audit senior role.

- Completing audits effectively before deadlines

- Performing multiple engagements with different clients simultaneously and thus able to work under pressure.

- The ability to speak both English and Afrikaans as half our client base was Afrikaans and thus as an English speaker I learnt how to be fully bilingual.

- Effective communication between management and junior audit clerks as well as between clients and management.
