Work History

2005 - 2019 Food Service Manager Total Action For Progress

Manage/supervise complete foodservice operation of non-profit Head Start program feeding 2 hot meals and 2 snacks daily to 900+ children in 17 satellite child development centers. Approx. 2,400 portions per day. Duties include USDA compliance, procurement of all food and supplies, maintenance/upkeep on all equipment in 17 daycare centers, achieving budget guidelines, and staff supervision/development through ongoing training and education. Retired from full-time in May, 2019.

2003-July, 2004 Regional Sales Manager Knouse Foods, Inc

Knouse Foods is a privately held co-op growing and marketing apple and fruit products, juices, pie fillings, puddings and cheese sauces under labels such as “Lucky Leaf” and “Musselman”. Sales responsibility for states of Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Managed seven sales brokers whose responsibility was new sales and sales penetration with the distributors and direct customers in the region. Brought on 3 new broadline distribution houses in my territory. Fiscal year regional sales were in excess of $11.7 million.

2002-Nov, 2003 Purchasing Analyst Viamac, Inc

Temporary position with 5-restaurant franchise group consisting of (4) WesterN SizzliN Family Steakhouses and (1) Fuddruckers with another store in planning stage. Projects included improving efficiency of purchasing, cost containment, buying programs, operations, and contracts for all products including food, hard goods, services and utilities, and construction and remodel materials. Major accomplishment was seeking out and negotiating a meat purchasing program with set pricing in the middle of rising prices and limited availability. Company is owned by former President/CEO of the Western Sizzlin Corporation.

2000-Dec, 2002 Director of Purchasing / Marketing Western-Sizzlin Corp.

Negotiated national supplier contracts for 175+ store franchise system. Leveraged system-buying power by unifying products bought and sold in our restaurants. Excellent relationships nationwide with various vendors and suppliers including food products, chemicals, paper, furniture, carpet, hard goods, and marketing. Participated extensively in the field with various franchisees and well as corporate stores. Negotiated a national distribution agreement with major broad line distributor resulting in substantial savings for the both franchise and company owned stores. Consolidated potato purchases into a national contract with an Idaho grower resulting in consistent pricing, availability, quality, and tremendous savings to the franchisees. Directed and coordinated marketing/advertising efforts with 4 person staff. Board member of the franchisee advertising and research group (ADRF). Contributing writer to the system-wide Moos News periodical. Produced and coordinated the 2002 National Convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In July of 2001, I was named Project Manager for the IEP (Image Enhancement Program), a prototype re-imaging campaign to reposition, and remodel test stores in specific geographic regions.

1991-Oct, 2000 Buyer/Marketing Manager PYA/Monarch, Inc.

Purchasing responsibilities included fresh dairy, dry grocery, canned fruits and vegetable, non-foods, chemicals, and paper. Initiated a fresh seafood program and was given additional buying duties for frozen seafood as well. Duties included merchandising, promoting, and extensive field sales support. In addition to “street accounts”, I worked closely with chain accounts such as WesterN SizzliN, Shoney’s, Capt. D’s, Country Cookin, Hooters, and the Compass Group. Produced twice-annual food show expo including site procurement, theme and decoration, and sales tracking and results.

1985-1991 Magistrate Commonwealth of Virginia

Served out partial term and one full term in the 23rd Judicial District. Duties included various civil procedures, issuing proper paperwork as it applied to the commission of a crime, commitments and releases from confinement, and juvenile and mental detention hearings. During this term, I also earned Continuing Legal Education credits through the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Staffing, purchasing, and operations of 14 concessions, 6 bars, 120 seat café, and various kiosks at Yonkers Raceway in New York.
