Manager of Learning and Development, Office of Human Resources

Provided opportunities for professional development among University staff and faculty. Planned and developed HR programming, partnered with the Center for Leadership, and consulted with state agencies to bring relevant content to campus community members.

EQUITY AND AWARENESS TRAINING

Consulted with Ohioans with Disabilities and Ohio Department of Veterans Services to bring widespread disability awareness to campus through HR-sponsored classes. Also attempted to inform staff and faculty of the value of Veteran hiring, retention and promotion for the purpose of growing the Veteran employee population.

ONGOING TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Oversaw planning and execution for approximately 35 HR training opportunities each semester, encompassing a variety of professional development and equity awareness topics for benefits-eligible staff and faculty. Regularly developed job aids and served as contact point for questions related to training topics. Training topics ranged from technical skills like new software integration to soft skills like Emotional Intelligence.

FOCUSED LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Partnered with the Center for Leadership to provide sponsorship for Supervisory Leadership, Emerging Leader, and Professional Development programs. Administered an annual sponsorship budget of over $120,000 and tracked all registrants and funding.

DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS

Coordinated follow-up data collection for all training opportunities. Used data to identify strengths and weaknesses of those opportunities, as well to measure effectiveness of the programs overall. Further refined data to determine which offerings should be continued, as well as to assess needs for as-yet-undeveloped training opportunities.

LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LMS) ADMINISTRATOR

Served as Administrator for LawRoom LMS, a tool used to track training, both mandatory and elective. LawRoom is the University’s vehicle for federally mandated equity, discrimination, sexual harassment, and responsible research training. Provided job aids and training to office staff in order for them to be able to serve as LMS Administrators as well.

Training Coordinator/HR Liaison, University of Dayton Research Institute

Advocated for, planned, and executed training events within the bounds of a DoD-sponsored research organization. Upheld and at times improved processes and communication between Wright-Patterson AFB employees and campus collaborators. Served as primary point of contact for all personnel actions at UDRI.

COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION

Coordinated with UDRI employees at Warner-Robins, Tinker, Eglin and Wright-Patterson Air Force Bases for new hire requirements, annual equity training requirements, and business processes for 3 divisions at UDRI. Served as primary POC for all human resources-related actions.

ONGOING TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Developed training calendar for UDRI’s Sharepoint portal. Developed new hire manual and distributed the information to new employees. Also, coordinated meetings between offices to put together a large training needs matrix to be used for professional development and skills training at Institute level. Sought subject matter experts and coordinated training sessions for main and satellite offices.

DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS

Managed an annual average of nearly 900 personnel actions (via PAF), collecting data to quantity—and ultimately model and display—trends in processing time, types of actions and anticipated times of heavy traffic, for example. Also tracked mandatory training completion rates and performance appraisals for the entire Institute.

Training Room Non-commissioned Officer (NCO)

Directly managed an office staff of four junior employees in the collection, processing and encrypted storage of highly sensitive personnel and organizational data. Mentored and served as a professional coach for junior enlisted soldiers.

MAINTAINING TRAINING RECORDS

Maintained records and data for over 550 soldiers. Principally monitored education and training requirements for battalion headquarters element. Informed leadership of deficiencies and coached personnel on necessary paths for educational readiness. Monitored the Army’s LMS called Digital Training Management System. This included uploading training records and certificates, as well as running reports to determine soldiers’ qualifications and promotability.

REQUIRED AND ONGOING TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Organized bi-annual equal opportunity, sexual harassment prevention, discrimination and drug abuse awareness training, ensuring 100% compliance. Monitored the completion of readiness training, a typical challenge for an Army unit continually on wartime deployment rotations.

Mentored junior enlisted soldiers in professional development, financial and familial responsibilities, and promotion-track education and training to maximize each’s potential and growth.
