Developed the Artificial Neural Networks for short term load forecasting and price forecasting which are essential in power system planning and reliable operation, using the public data of ISO New England and PJM market companies

Worked on improving the efficiency of energy consumption in buildings by optimizing the operation of various energy sources like solar PV panels, combined heat and power system, battery, utility power and different electric and thermal loads

Projects:

Under Graduate Level:

“Power flow solutions including FACTS devices”

Power flow methods are the most basic system analysis tools to know about steady-state operation of a power system. By including FACTS devices (like SVC, TCSC) at proper places, results can be more accurate. Modeling and implementation of FACTS devices is done in load flow studies using MATLAB and simulation results concluded that voltage at most of the buses was improved due to the inclusion of FACTS devices.

“Fault analysis based on symmetrical components of voltages and currents”

Different types of unsymmetrical faults like line-to-ground, line-to-line, line-line-to-ground are created on a ten bus power system that is simulated using Powerworld software. The values of fault voltages and currents are calculated theoretically based on symmetrical components of voltages and currents and these results are compared with the results obtained through Powerworld software.

Graduate Level:

“Operation of protective relay settings for differential protection relays”

A line current differential protection relay of SEL company is integrated into a power system that is simulated using RSCAD software. The settings of the relay are managed in the testing procedure of relay which is useful for fault studies on power system.

“Reliability Assessment of Transmission System using PSS/E”

Reliability of a power system involves monitoring the parameters and components of the system such that they are within their respective limits. In this project, the data base of a transmission system was maintained and reliability assessment of the subsystems was performed by load flow analysis and contingency analysis using PSS/E software.

“Power Flow Analysis, Economic Dispatch and Contingency screening using PSS/E”

For a 5-bus power system, power flows were analyzed using PSS/E. Economic dispatch of power system was done to calculate the cost saving. Contingency screening was also analyzed for the same system considering all possible generator and branch contingencies.

“Differential Relay protection of Generators and Transformers using PSCAD”

In this project, PSCAD software was used for designing and simulating power circuit breakers for generators and power transformers of power system. Using different components, differential relay was developed for detecting the internal and external faults.

“Overcurrent Protection of Distribution System using RSCAD”

An overcurrent relay was designed for detecting the ground faults during the time of operation of a small power distribution system in RSCAD environment. The measurement of the line currents is used as the basis for designing the overcurrent relay.
