Senior Program Manager

Successfully transitioned a Universal Ground Control Station prototype to Full Rate Production in the Shadow Unmanned Air System. Assigned as Product Line Manager for all UAS Universal products, coordinating 5 year technology roadmaps ensuring that the GCS will enter full rate production for other US Army Tactical Unmanned Air Vehicle programs in 2011 and 2012. Sponsored continuous improvement initiatives within the AAI Ground Control Technologies Directorate.

Provided mentorship to a team of 20 CAMs (Control Account Managers) ensuring that my programs supported AAI DCMA EV certification. One of three programs selected for DCMA and DCAA evaluation for EV processes.

Managed an 80 person engineering team in the $50M engineering development of the Universal Ground Control Station and other UAS Ground control equipment. Completed all tasks on schedule and on budget. Received accolades from the Army Customer for the teams ability to execute. Turned this project into a $300M production contract.

Sponsored a Change Management Process that formalized red line changes of technical drawings ensuring that the Contract Manufacturer experienced very quick turnaround of requested changes. Reduced turnaround time of engineering changes from 10 days to less than 2 hours. Enabled assembly of first units in less time than current GCS even though UGCS was in preproduction phase.

Led multiple Value Stream Mapping and Value Stream Improvement projects.

Received AAI 3rd Qtr. 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award for leading a team of 25 engineers in a streamlined project to repackage the UGCS into a 3 crewstation shelter.

DRS LAUREL TECHNOLOGIES, Johnstown, PA 2004 - 2008

Director of Manufacturing Technologies and Operational Excellence

Provided leadership to technical teams in the areas of Operational Excellence/Lean Manufacturing, Management Information Systems (MIS), Test, Configuration Management, Customer Service, Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering (DFM, DFUC, DFSS) and Project Engineering.

Advisor/coach on over 20 Kaizen/DMAIC events – resulted in over $700K of savings and cost avoidance.

oCollaborated with a team of operations experts across the company to establish a baseline set of 30 manufacturing metrics (benchmarked at the Johnstown Facility)

Strategic Development: Developed the three-year roadmap for the implementation of Paperless Manufacturing (successfully completed pilot project and initial implementation at three sites).

Innovation: Implemented the concept of Video Work Instructions, enabling the rapid capture of tacit knowledge required in some of the more difficult build processes.

Lean Manufacturing: Implemented an employee suggestion system that resulted in over 100- implemented suggestions and $500K savings within the first year.

Technical Leadership: Developed a team of design engineers who focused on designing for manufacturability and unit cost.

Director of Quality

Concurrently held the position of Director of Quality on an interim basis for 15 months during the search for a new Director. Transformed the quality organization from a subjective based inspection group to an objective data focused team.

System Design: Architected and implemented a Web Based Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) increasing the scope of data collection from 15 data elements to over 150 while decreasing data collection time per event from 15 minutes to less than 2 through use of barcoding.

Innovation: Implemented Failure Review Boards process to drive Cost of Poor Quality Reductions resulting in several major successes

oReduced failures occurring during molding process on fragile connectors ($250K savings)

oReduced damage during manufacturing process on cable builds ($168K savings)
