I worked on an "as needed" basis covering pharmacist shifts at Schnucks pharmacies in the St. Louis area. I accessed the pharmacist staffing schedule and placed myself in shifts to assist the company's scheduler in covering the needs of various stores. Any shift I accepted was one less that she had to fill, sometimes resulting in saving the company paying a salaried pharmacist an overtime shift. Since I did not have guaranteed hours, I received no benefits and was paid hourly. I chose to do this to have more time with my two boys while they are young and loved being able to work in different pharmacies, meet new patients, and learn new things from different store teams.
