Annexure - Projects Summary

Project

Rating (Business Insurance)

Client

Travelers, US

Project Description

The ‘Rating’ component is responsible for rating insurance policies to ensure that the

below are correctly computed at various points in the insurance coverage period. This is

the most important component, for which testing the complete cycle is essential i.e., from

the creation of base policy till the point it gets expired and audited.

(1)

Annual & monthly premiums at the time of quoting (base policy)

(2)

New premiums at the time of renewal, taking into account any changes in

coverage (including any claims made previously) at that point

(3)

New premiums within the coverage period subject to changes in coverage

(4)

Refunded premiums for cancelled policies for which annual premium has already

been paid.

Testing of this component involved:

(1)

Creating different varieties of insurance policies (with varying levels and

coverages) using the SCBP-WC (Small Commercial Business Platform – Workers

Compensation) web application

(2)

Setting up the correct data – like cancelling policies at various points in the

coverage period, adding new coverage to existing policies to change their

premium values, etc.,

(3)

Mathematically computing the expected values using the reference data (from

database and worksheet from business) for the policies in various states. The

computation is automated using a spreadsheet called ‘Rating Calculation

Worksheet’, which we create based on business rules & conditions (known as

‘state algorithms’) and reference data (held in database and also in a worksheet

provided by business).

(4)

Validating that the actual values produced after audit match the expected values.

(5)

Verification of ‘Policy Papers’, to ensure that the coverage details and premium

are as expected.

Project

Premium Audit (Business Insurance)

Client

Travelers, US

Project Description

The ‘Premium Audit’ component is responsible to ensure that the coverage details are

properly maintained throughout the coverage period taking into account all the changes

done to the policies.

Testing of this component (essentially the SCBP-WC web application) involved:

(1)

Creation of base policies via the SCBP-WC (Small Commercial Business Platform

– Workers Compensation) web application

(2)

Changing the coverage details (add or remove coverage) at various points for the

base policies. Also, ‘Cancel’ or ‘Expire’ the policies – in order to audit.

(3)

Triggering an ‘audit’ for those policies

(4)

Validating whether all the changes are reflected in the audit

It also involves negative testing to assume that some changes are not reflected in the

audit (either the agent hasn’t added the detail or a functionality defect). In that case, the

missing details will be added to the audit and a ‘Revised Audit’ will be triggered.

Project

Auto Product Strategy (Personal Insurance)

Client

Travelers, US

Project Description

The ‘auto product strategy’ component is responsible for quoting personal car insurance

premiums together with their coverage.

4

Testing of this component involved:

•Validating the web application – SUI (Strategic User Interface) – and the two mainframe based applications – Excalibur and Icalibur – that collect data from the user/agent and generate coverage & premium amount based on the input provided in accordance with the business rules.

•Executing the same scenarios across all three applications in order to test consistency and behaviour

•Validation of user input forms including execution of negative/error scenarios

•Validation of ‘Policy Papers’ for correctness of premium and coverage

•Automation for testing the SUI application using QTP

Knowledge Management Portal (for internal test team use)

Client

To (mm/yy)

05/12

Role / Responsibility

Programmer Analyst

Contributions

Creation of new forms enabling the tester (user) to enter relevant details and

upload the documents.

•Creation of new forms to enable the tester to share documents with peers and the ability for them to download

•Wrote code to make the portal (pages) work based on a defined set of ‘user

5

privileges’ and ‘module privileges’. For instance, a document might be visible with modify access to the members of the module the document belongs to but when shared with members of other modules, the same document would be visible only with read access.
