2018-2019 M.Tech Thesis : Effect of dual splitter plate on the flow around a circular cylinder

1. This work aims to investigate the effect of two splitter plates on the flow around a circular cylinder experimentally and numerically at a Reynolds number 1609. Here two splitter plates with the length same as that of a circular cylinder (D) is considered one at upstream and the other at downstream.

2. These splitter plates are arranged along the centreline of the circular cylinder .Their positions are denoted with upstream gap ratio (G1/D) downstream gap ratio (G2/D). 3. Both G1/D and G2/D ratios are varied from 0 to 2.5 in order to investigate the effect of gap ratios on Strouhal number and Drag Coefficient. 4. It is observed that for Re=1609, minimum drag due to introduction of splitter plates occur at G1/D =0.5 and G2/D =1.5, and a total drag reduction of 29.9is obtained compared to that of a standalone circular cylinder. 2017 BTech project: Novel Three-Way catalytic converter 1. Prepare a novel three way catalytic converter using nano copper and Fe-TiO2 and thereby reducing the use of Expensive catalyst such as Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium.

2. This type of catalytic converter also increases efficiency by exposing maximum surface area of catalyst to the exhaust stream. Checking the emission reduction of the novel three-way converter for petrol, diesel and gasoline- ethanol blend fuel. 3. The modified converter will be cost effective, pollution free and more efficient than the existing catalytic convertors The main achievements of this project are: 4. It was observed that the amount of CO, HC, NOx was reduced significantly after the novel catalytic converter was installed. On comparing the results obtained from the gas analyzer, the amount of pollutants corresponding to specific RPMs, the values obtained were significantly low in the case of novel catalytic converter. 5. The test results show that the use of 80 per gasoline and 20 per ethanol with novel three-way catalytic converter reduces significantly. Therefore it is concluded that novel three-way converter system can be an effective approach in the place of expensive metal based catalytic converter
