January **, ****

Dear Recruiter or Hiring Manager:

Thank you for taking the time from your busy day to read my cover letter and to review over two decades of career growth as presented in my resume. I recognize that you are searching for the perfect candidate for the position, just as I am seeking a great organization to serve and call home. I am confident that we can meet shortly to discuss your needs in the form of a first interview.

Please know that I generally do not blast resumes to hundreds of companies in order to “see what sticks.” I chose your company because your posting in its totality personally resonated within me and therefore inspired me to apply.

Throughout my recent tenure at Wells Fargo, I gained amazing analytical, technical, and managerial skills and experience, but also drove many data innovations that remain scalable and utilized today. Due to the size, reach, and diversity of this now-international organization, I also gained deep experience in both Financial Services processes, as well as Enterprise IT operations and challenges. I am also grateful to Wells for assisting me in obtaining my MBA (Organizational Leadership) from Webster University in 2015.

Prior to my career at Wells, I learned Data Management skills from the ground up, starting in the infancy of the Internet Revolution (1997), which further led to opportunities in data warehouse architecture, business intelligence, ETL, data analytics, and finally as a hands-on engineering manager at several Fortune 500 companies and a healthcare non-profit. It is this unique perspective, together with a laser focus on Data Management, Business Intelligence, and now Vulnerabilities Management, that empowers me to understand, empathize, and resolve the daily challenges of my team members.

Consequently, obtaining my MBA also enriched my ability to translate technical strategy and innovation into effective business roadmaps to senior management and C-suite executives, while gaining valuable insight into major business functions. In short, I learned to ‘speak business’ instead of forcing business to ‘speak geek’, a rare strength for which I have been recognized many times over the years.

I am ready to leverage this rare experience to emulate the strategic shoes of those first-admired executives. I carry technical expertise in my back pocket and business operational skills in my front, as evidenced in my most recent role as a Vulnerabilities Product Owner. Furthermore, I speak, write, and read both English and Spanish fluently, and I am ready for the enterprise’s challenges on Day One, regardless of company size.

Thank you again for the opportunity for me to offer a score of practical and successful experience to your company and best wishes to all during the candidate search.

Ever forward,

Kathryn Leigh Shut /shoot/
