GBG USA is a large-scale Retailer for Garments and Hard Goods in USA. The goal of the project was to build a Data warehousing (DW) / Business Intelligence (BI) system for Li & Fung (GBG) users using latest technologies. Data was extracted from SAP using the SAP BW extractors and were sent to the EDW system which was built on SQL server 2008. Cognos Cubes were built based on the transformed data on the EDW and were published to the Cognos Connection Portal.

Roles and responsibilities:

Created databases and schema objects including tables, indexes and applied constraints, wrote functions, stored procedures and triggers.

Based on the feedback from the Business users, a detailed DW upgrade plan was developed and documented. The existing star schema was enhanced and a set of summary tables were created on top of it. To extract data needed for additional reports ETL jobs were created using DTS packages and Java.
