A firm believer in the words of Saint Basil which goes “A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds…” as hard work is the core value that defines me. I am a born leader who held the position of Head student in both primary and high school and even proceeded to serve on various task teams and committees in University while sitting on student council as treasurer and transformation representative. Sitting at the back of the crowd has never been my mantra as my belief is that the moment you walk into a space, you use as little time to familiarize yourself with it as possible and immediately begin to apply yourself in service of those around you or your employer because a true leader serves.

TECHING ASSISTANT & GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR, FUSSION SECONDARY SCHOOL

This was a volunteer opportunity which started in the form of a leadership program I had proposed to the school for young girls in grade 10-12. On arrival I established a need for a creative writing space as most learners struggled with this, I then became a teaching assistant for English teachers who taught grade 8 – 11. I also opened my door to students that needed a space to be vulnerable or just wanted someone to talk to whom they could relate to as this was a privilege most of the learners were not afforded in their household.

This position also involved coming up with events that promoted transformation within the institution.

DATE: NOVEMBER 2017 – NOVEMBER 2018

TREASURER, UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN HSC

As treasurer, I was responsible for managing the account of the council which involved making transactions and approving or disproving budgets for every portfolio in the council. Availing myself to provide financial advice on financial matters involving the council including availing myself during planning of events to approve or disprove how finances are being managed. ACTIVITIES

Having been born into an environmentally conscious family, my passion for the environment came natural. I went from leading clean up teams and running the school garden initiative while in high school and primary school respectively to becoming the Vice Chairperson of the Green Campus Initiative which was the biggest society on campus.

Having been on the leadership committee for Green campus Initiative we were able to convince University management and the Environmental working groups to draft the very first environmental policy at UCT which was signed by the Vice Chancellor.

Some of our biggest projects included working with the City of Cape Town and the university as water champions to bring the student voice and also assist in coming up with creative ways to save water and encourage both students and community members to save water, including thinking of solutions to ensure that we are never struck with a crisis like this in future.

Being in this position we also got to work with many other environmental organizations such as 350 org., Green peace, WWF and many more. This not only inspired me to continue in the line of my passion but to also become active in it.
