PROFILE
I grew up on the cash crop/beef farm that my Dad managed. I developed a love for farming and began helping at an early age. My love for agriculture grew stronger as I learned more about it by taking every agricultural class available at my high school and became the FFA Chapter President.
I had successful leadership roles in various agricultural businesses with concentration in livestock feed and fertilizer. In 2010, I successfully ran for state representative for the 97th district of the Michigan House of Representatives. I was known for problem-solving servant leadership. I helped reduce regulation, assisted in balancing the budget, and initiated changes to improve opportunities for education, agriculture, and small business. My constituency greatly appreciated a no-nonsense approach to government representation. They re-elected me overwhelmingly until I was term limited. Shortly thereafter, I accepted an appointment as the State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency in Michigan. I am honored to have received compliments by agency leaders, general staff, and partner agencies for improved communication, transparency, and implementation of farm programs and farm loan management in Michigan.
