A Turnaround Champion with proven skills in management, strategic planning, negotiation, mentoring, organization, observation, troubleshooting, motivation and improvement of operations through policies that promote a team-based work atmosphere, creative thinking, process enhancement, and a positive result for the corporate bottom line.
Selected Responsibilities and Accomplishments
Managed all aspects of a company division encompassing 900 employees over 8 departments including hiring and firing, budgeting, scheduling work and activities, establishing policies and procedures, performance evaluation and motivation of employees.
Implemented facility wide cost reductions through improved efficiencies gained from automation thus reducing labor costs by 70% in select departments and plant wide by 23% with a ROI of 18 months or less.
Boosted cash flow and reduced costs through review and restructure of the inventory system. Instituted a new Just-in-Time system that ensured the correct amount of material was ready for each production cycle. Costs were reduced by 90%.
Improved productivity and efficiency through analysis of the Build-to schedule. Implemented Kaizan process improvement changes along with a proactive team’s expertise to significantly improve build-to volume.
Turned around a company location by reviewing work flow, needed skill sets, current personnel and abilities. Partnered with direct reports and senior supervision to establish a proper 5S work plan. Put new policies in place and retrained staff in organizational techniques.
Reduced downtime and improved productivity through reimplementation of a Preventative Maintenance program that was failing due to workforce reduction and OT elimination. Created a workable schedule that ensured each department would have access to skilled trades necessary to keep our machinery at optimum performance.
Reduced operating costs by negotiating with the union for a 7-employee reduction off roll based on undisputable information. Presented facts regarding ergonomic approvals, new technologies and work station rearrangement to successfully justify this change.
Improved declining performance by establishing a comprehensive performance evaluation system with step-by-step plan to move the employees towards desired corporate and individual career goals. Provided additional coaching and training opportunities as required to build confidence and re-establish leadership qualities.
Enhanced morale in salaried employees no longer motivated to achieve due to limited opportunities for advancement. Instituted a new Cross-Training Program that provided these employees with continual growth into new areas of knowledge.
Reduced OSHA recordable injuries by observing an area in the workflow prone to accidents. Partnered with engineering to make ergonomic improvements to this area that virtually eliminated this safety concern.
Boosted product quality and improved productivity by observing a procedure prone to bottlenecks. Worked with industrial engineers to redesign layout and redistribute workload reducing the possibility of defects significantly.
Spearheaded the use of partnered training to prepare 65 employees to work in a newly established shift. Teamed each new employee with a trained employee and then arranged for the new shift to initially begin 4 hours early into the previous shift to access additional knowledge. Successfully had the new shift team up to speed within a 2-week period.
