Personal Statement

Energy and environmental expert with global industry and academic experience in energy system modelling, project planning and development, strategic policy design and climate advocate. Goal is to further explore and develop technologies, programs, and policies for clean energy transition through the application of my broad experiences and proven skill set.

Related Professional Experience and Achievements

Research Assistant – Michigan Technological University (MTU), MI Sept. 2018 – Present

Working on a transdisciplinary research project of Michigan Community and Anishinaabe Renewable Energy Sovereignty (MICARES), funded by National Science Foundation (NSF). Leading discussions with communities, project partners and stakeholders on strategies for socio-technical transition to renewable energy. This is done via physical (before pandemic and lockdown) and virtual zoom meetings.

Researching and analyzing energy policies with regards to indigenous communities in the U.S., drawing out useful applications important for the MICARES project

Collaborating with different team members of the project in modelling and critically analyzing transition to renewable energy by indigenous communities in the state of Michigan.

Assisted in teaching various courses including Environment and Society

Strategic Operations Intern – Michigan Public Service Commission May 2019 – Aug. 2019

Appointed by the PSC Commissioners as working group member for UP Energy Task force. Developed prefeasibility for biogas production and supply in UP as alternative to Line 5 propane supply project ordered by Governor W. Gretchen.

Collaborated with staff on modelling of DTE’s multi-megawatt integrated resource planning (IRP), using AURORA energy exemplar. It included solar farm projects and purchasing power agreement (PPA) analysis.

Assisted commissioners in regulation of and decision-making on rate cases for utilities by sorting their case files, orders and issues, in accordance to federal and state of Michigan’s energy policies.

Participated and assisted in facilitating IRP public hearings for various Michigan regulated utilities.

Energy Project Consultant – Durness Development Group Oct. 2016 – Mar. 2017

Participated in a six-month community energy project on affordable heating from micro hydro and wind energy resources for Durness community in Scotland. The project was in collaboration of Community Energy Scotland, Europa University Flensburg and Durness Development Group.

Led hydro team in micro hydro resource and site assessment, and power generation modelling and calculation

Conducted interviews with community members to gather data and factor their perspectives into the community energy project

Carried out hydrological modelling using ArcGIS software and environmental impact of the project

Collaborated with other research team to determine technical and economic feasibility of the project

Prepared and presented final report at the end of the sixth month to the community members for potential implementation
