Networking Roles and Responsibilities
Maintenance and management of Large-scale Corporate, medium scale Restricted and small-scale Secret Networks using OSPF and EIGRP Routing.
Providing BAU 2nd and 3rd line support using remedy-based ticketing software; monitoring the remedy call queue and resolving tickets within SLAs.
Working closely with IT departments and end user clients, finding network solutions, resolving incidents, performing tasks, and troubleshooting break fix network issues.
CISCO Switches, Routers, Firewalls, EIP DNS Servers,Wireless and ISE.
Updating firmware on network devices e.g. Switches, Firewalls and using network monitoring tools such as PRTG, KIWI Syslog, Solar Winds, and Spectrum for network incidents.
Project Work
LAN refresh upgrading the LAN switches from Catalyst 3550 switches to 3750 switches on the Corporate and Restricted Network. Also, I was tasked to build a small Secret Network which replaced the existing Secret Network. After 7 years I performed another LAN refresh to upgrade the switches from Catalyst 3750 switches to 3850 switches.
Assisted in installing NAC on the Networks using Juniper NAC controllers which included MAB and DO1X for device authentication.
Aided in installing WiFi access points around the Stevenage site to enable WiFi access for guest users.
Installation of 2960 switches in meeting rooms to provide guest access using NAC/MAB for visitors and users.
Assisted in upgrading the corporate WAN (provided by BT) which involved setting up site-to-site WAN connectivity from Stevenage to Portsmouth using the GRE tunnel/IPSEC. The project also included upgrading site-to-site routers from Cisco 3845 to ASR1001x.
Replacing Juniper NAC controllers with Cisco ISE and having a responsibility to continue to maintain and administer the devices on the Restricted Network.
Infrastructure and Design Projects
Design a Network infrastructure for a new Data Centre in Stevenage and to configure and install Nexus N5K 5548 and N2K for the DATA centre for server connectivity.
Re-design and relocate Network devices in a data centre to a new purpose-built data centre within Stevenage. This required relocation of internet lines, internet facing routers, firewalls and DMZ switches. This involved coordination and planning with various teams including external internet providers.
Design a Network infrastructure for a new Data Centre in Stevenage for the Restricted Network to configure and install Nexus N5K 5672 and N2K for the DATA centre server connectivity.
Design the Network infrastructure for a new building on the Stevenage site. This was a big project which required me to liaise with my team in locating the Data Centre and COMMs room positions within the building and designing the rack layouts for the Network devices. This also involved being responsible, organising, purchasing and configuring new 9300 Cisco access switches and Nexus Cisco 5672.
Collaborated in replacing the RLI Proxy Servers from Blue Coat SG300 to S400.
Supported in installing a secure envoy using Yubi keys for VPN on the Restricted Network.
