RESUME FOR JEFF BROWN

Jeff Brown 435-***-**** cell

** *** ****** adisru@r.postjobfree.com

North Andover MA 01845

Abilities. I am a capable, resourceful multitalented individual. I am a self-starter and driver of the direction and focus of new technologies and products. I interface regularly with technology companies in the western half of the United States. I am educated, literate and like interfacing with capable motivated people.

Principal Senior System Engineer MKS Wilmington Mass. (July 2018 to present). My work at MKS is to provide system level product oversight for plasma generator design and Ozone generation of both Electrical, Mechanical and compliance aspects of the design. We use FMEA and FMECA processes for risk reduction to produce a focused effort for High voltage power generation and distribution for the products using 400-480 volts 3 phase sources for 300-360 VDC distribution. Interesting aspects are that the product must be compact and thermally managed throughout. I also have sustaining and re-launch responsibility for the older product lines that no longer have the original engineering team available, essentially reverse engineering the company’s older product lines to protect about $100,000,000 of ongoing sales. Part of my role is to mentor new engineers at the company. I recently finished an improved test fixture design for the ozone microwave generator line to automate that time consuming testing process.

Senior Mechanical Engineer. Spiricon/Ophir an MKS company in Logan, Utah. (Aug 2016 to July 2018). I was responsible for all engineering aspects of the BeamWatch product group hardware for the Nano Scan High Power and advisor for the NanoScan II and Pyro Cam IV. I worked as senior engineer for the hardware team providing direction, focus and guidance. I implemented extended analysis of product issues using mathematical analysis, dimensional analysis and improved research. I brought a scientific method to solutions and have implemented design reviews, customer requirements, functional requirements and derived requirements and pushed and participated closely in design FMEA’s, DFR’s, risk analysis, test plans and design control documents to insure a robust and controlled product development. I managed the development schedules, critical time lines and cross department organization to schedule and release on a timely basis. I also drove 8D root cause analysis, direct testing on RF emissions, susceptibility and electrostatic discharge. My work there resulted in a Patent for the company for Laser Tomography.

An additional role was to work with customers in assessing need, developing proposals, writing development plans, timelines and cost projections and of course implementing on said plans. I also designed extensive tooling system for optical analysis, control parameters and manufacturing. Electrical Engineer R&D. (Jan 2012 to Aug 2016), my job function at Thermofisher was to develop the company’s ability to vertically integrate into control strategies and electronics. As the company’s only EE my first job was to establish an electronics lab and then move directly into design of a Bioreactor control system. Working with internal and external services we developed a STRAP funded control system using Modbus as the communication backbone to operate pumps, mass flow controllers, general purpose I/O, pH and dissolved oxygen and tied that all in with a CFR 21 part 11 compliant user interface. Much of the drive was to reduce costs; consequently many analog front ends were developed from scratch to replace purchased modules with our own electronics. Specifically that included pH, dissolved oxygen sensors, load cells, pressure sensors and 4-20mA inputs and outputs. The system shown below is a functioning block of downstream bioreactor control and is accessible to a larger manufacturing system via Modbus. See https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/SUM0200.9001

Of note, I continued to offer contract development and engineering services while at Thermofisher and developed optical reflectance mode pulse oxymetry and optical hematocrit measuring equipment for customers since 2012.

Electrical Engineering Director. (Jan 2011 to Jan 2012) My job function at S&S was to reestablish the knowledge base of the controls program for the company and bring the controls systems into the 21st Century. I managed PLC software, information technology, the panel shop and assigned drafters in the design of the company’s entertainment products. I also generated two new profit centers by accessorizing coaster rides with lighting and audio interactive play systems and developed SIL III safety control modules that exceed IEC standards for safety in the restraint and harness segment of the industry. My last project there was to install the Green Lantern rollercoaster on Australia’s Gold Coast; considered the steepest coaster in the southern hemisphere. See Green Lantern Movie World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmJmvln-bP0

Project Engineer, Hycomp Industries. (June 2011 to Jan 2011). At Hycomp my responsibilities were to direct the design of compressor system and a team of engineers and drafters specifically responsible for manufacturing and process documents to build the compressor system. Their reciprocating compressors must be produced quickly and meet taxing schedules These compressors boost flammable gases to as much as 3000 psig, and must be ultra reliable in the field. In the six months I was there I shipped $1,000,000 in product. I worked with Management, sales, documentation, procurement, machine shop and assembly.

Director of Engineering/Vice President, Excalibur Engineering Services (2004 to June 2010). At Excalibur I set the course for all the designs by innovating the specific concepts and manufacturing methods to be used. Excalibur does custom designs in manufacturing equipment, manufacturing process and automation as well as work on the product itself to make it simpler to manufacture. I drove all the electronic, optic and mechanical designs through to completion and directed staff in the detailed documentation, manufacturing process, manufacturing fixtures, fabrication drawings, schematics, and Bills of Materials. I am hands on and can make run time adjustments to systems for proper operation. I am proficient in SolidWorks and can design complex electro mechanical systems as well as integrate control and software systems. One of our key customers Wavien Inc. specialized in innovative means for light application. In the course of working under contract I designed several light engines for reverse projection televisions, light coupling TIR optical waveguides, manufacturing processes, high intensity search lights with beam angles of +/-2 degrees and very narrow beam flashlights. I also worked with Utah Laser to design and control their high speed laser diode printer arrays.

Director of R&D, Maxtec Industries (2004 to 2005) https://www.maxtec.com/. At Maxtec I reviewed and corrected their central test fixture processes for Oxygen sensor production. I designed and had built new fixtures for quick replacement in the hand loading portion of their line and integrated that with the control software for quality control and traceability. I also analyzed their sensor thermal drift issues and optimized the design to reduce thermal drift 5X. Maxtec is a medical company and we followed ISO 14971 standards for FDA approval and compliance.

President, Excalibur Engineering LLC (1992 to 2004) Excalibur Engineering is a company I cofounded. My responsibilities included sales, manufacturing process, customer relations engineering direction and new business development. Some of the more remarkable projects I completed there included a smart airbag initiator design for OEA prior to their buyout by Autoliv including close work and contribution to process at their manufacturing facility. I designed a medical fiber optic illumination system with full manufacturing stations and fixtures for Cogent Light, since sold to Welch Allen. I designed a binocular laser targeting detector for pulsed YAG detection for the Nasa/Night Vision Labs under an SBIR. For Sorensen Medical I designed a 10,000 element illuminated steerable fiber bundle or Hysteroscope. Most of these products were developed using FMEA and FMECA processes for risk reduction and design mitigation, particularly the medical product.

Another laser based system that we designed measured millimeter distance over a kilometer using a reflected laser interferometer. A similar system was done for center of gravity measurement for Alliant to measure the enormous booster segments of the Titan IV solid rocket motors at their Magna facility.

Space Systems Engineering. (1985 to 1986). While at SSE I managed, designed and fixed issues with their Circular Variable Spectrometer working in the 1-10 micron wavelengths. I also designed the Spiricon 32 X 32 laser profiling array and complex manufacturing processes with the optics vendor. This was quite a natural step as I had worked on Spiricon linear arrays prior with Carlos Roundy under direction from my Father who designed Spiricons first linear laser profiling arrays.

Mecca Electronics, Engineering director and later as President (1983-1992) We specialized in engineering design contracts and electronic manufacturing. The company is now known as Inovar and is located in Logan Utah http://inovar-inc.com/ . I developed many new products for client companies and startups. Some of the developments included two treadmill lines and a combination weight training system for Icon Health and Fitness https://www.iconfitness.com/. I worked closely with the clients to set up their manufacturing processes and proceedures I was also responsible for the Fresenius Pharma ambulatory enteral pump with optical bubble detection, and the Gentner TS612 talk radio system including the FCC testing and full documentation and manufacturing processes. While much of my time was devoted to engineering of client project, manufacturing, manufacturing processes; while at Mecca I developed and implemented sales strategies, marketing and documentation control and was at one time listed in the Deseret New as one of Utah’s top 10 up and coming businessmen.
