PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Automated Cylinder Test — Capstone Project

A computer application to analyze and score the rodent’s activity during a standard cylinder test. The project interfaced camera imagery with image analysis software and graphical user interface. Machine learning was involved in training an object classifier to identify targets. Created custom Arduino MCU to manage the interface between the camera and imaging software. Developed the Arduino firmware and GUI using C#.NET. The GUI called a Python script to evaluate imagery and score the results.

Image Analysis — Machine Learning Project

A machine learning object classifier to detect instances of active rodent paws. Implemented Viola-Jones image analysis method and applied it to the Capstone targets. Algorithm has clear weights and a greater pool of samples to train. Project uses a different object classifier and improves upon Capstone's original.

Contraction Claw — Implant for Heart Failure

Invasive high density polyethylene apparatus to surround a heart after failure. Mechanically contracts the heart during the systolic phase. Implements peizo-elecric transducer to contract based on volume. Set of five “fingers,” each a series of articulating blocks linked with axles and actuated by internal gear. The actuation compresses the ventricles during the first pump to maximize volumetric flow rate and output.

Electrocardiogram— HRM using PPG Transducer

Design, build and demonstrate a working heart rate monitor using a photoplethysmogram (PPG) transducer. Became diligent to test each component, compare efficiency to functionality, understand and operate oscilloscopes, control for environmental factors, and patience in practice.

OTHER PROJECTS

Android Studio Development — Learning Java, XML & HTML Expanding my skills in Object Oriented Programming to develop my skills in robust software development. Markup languages are not in my specialization, becoming proficient at programming with these file types is paramount to my efficacy as a programmer. Personal projects include a universal screen sharing application and a low-powered real-time object tracker.

Arduino — Interface for Internet of Things

Learning and implementing bluetooth and wireless interface between controllers in personal and household appliances. Later research on creating libraries to communicate with android applications. Practice includes Raspberry Pi 4 for Linux systems.

Roller Coaster— High School Science Project

Created a wooden frame roller coaster to drop a marble with style. Initial lift implemented a small motor for a carefully tuned, automated carriage system to carry the marble to the top.

Wood Cup— Pencil Cup for High School

Created a cedar pencil cup in woodshop class for a final project. Cut portions with table saw and band saw; etch out cup bore with lathe; bulk smoothing surface on table sander, fune smooth by hand.
