Pitt Rocketry Team Undergraduate team participating in the NASA Student Launch Lead Mechanical Engineer Pittsburgh, PA May 2020 - Present
• Led the designing, manufacturing, simulations, testing, and system integration of all mechanical components on multiple high-powered rockets involved in the NASA Student Launch competition.
• Decided final budget items and reduced the amount of forfeit money and determined ways to reuse repaired parachutes, thereby saving the team 12% of the mechanical team’s budget.
• Designed the parachute system, motor, and fin shapes for the subscale rocket using simulations. Resulted in a similar target apogee, but a 43% cheaper subscale design. Payload Team Engineer Pittsburgh, PA August 2019 – May 2020
• Developed a mobility method with a full part list for a payload design and determined mechanical and electrical demands of a potential drone design. Resulted in a 63% more efficient design and reduced costs by 10% of payload’s budget.
• Designed a method of extraterrestrial ice collection by developing a SolidWorks CAD model of a passive soil collection method. Resulted in a passive soil collection option that both cut crucial power consumption and reduced costs to less than $10.
Presentation Team Engineer Pittsburgh, PA August 2019 – May 2020
• Presented the team’s work to NASA engineers and collaborated with engineers in avionics, mechanical, and payload. Resulted in NASA engineers scoring our Preliminary Design Review (PDR), the sequential Critical Design Review (CDR), and Flight Ready Review (FRR) highly in the presentation category, as well as placing 14th overall out of 64 college teams.
PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
Mars Rover Design Project Pittsburgh, PA, August 2020 – October 2020
• Designed a lightweight “Mars” rover that could traverse a robust environment at a high speed, given a 0.2-Watt solar panel and a 0.54 N mm stall torque DC motor.
• Collaborated and designed a rover in SolidWorks that minimized weight and complexity and maximized torque output to the wheels and its maneuverability with innovative skis. Resulted in 3D printed and Laser cut prototype that won 1st place in the competition of 38 teams for speed and obstacle maneuverability.
Space Camera Project Pittsburgh, PA, October 2016 - March 2017
• Pursued the design and assembly of a cheap space camera by first brainstorming and researching a part list for a potential space camera.
• Built a low-cost weather balloon space camera out of a Styrofoam cooler, Go-Pro, GPS locater, parachute, helium weather balloon, and hand warmers. Manufacturing Skills
