I worked in the High-Risk Labor and Delivery Unit. Responsibilities included: giving bedside care to women 12-52 years of age, offering physical, emotional and spiritual support, giving referrals to outside agencies as needed, performing procedures such as; IV placement and maintenance, monitoring high risk mothers, assessing fetal status, magnesium sulfate infusions, insulin drips, Pitocin infusions, monitor ventilatory status of intubated patients, emergency blood protocol infusions assisting physicians in delivery of normal and high risk pregnancies, both vaginally and by caesarian sections. I also worked in the role of Kangaroo Care (KC) Champion. In this role I instructed and mentored new orientees, current staff and outlying hospitals in Kentucky on Skin-to Skin Care and its impact on breastfeeding rates. I taught Prepared Childbirth classes. Myself and two other prepared childbirth educators developed the curriculum for this program.
