Sector north is the hugest sector in UNAMID, It’s co-location with UNAMID HQ, gives privilege to be close to strategic decision makers, contribution in senior management meetings, and elevated the level of, increased strategic awareness, enriched the level of managerial skills, elevated the decision making capability and information analysis skills especially SRM process.
Duties and responsibilities:
1.Advise UNAMID leadership in the daily conduct of military operations to keep the Events Track updated.
2.-Assume Command and tactical control over (6000 peacekeepers) to physically protect civilians under threat according to (ROE), in line with UNAMID Mandate, and related documents SOFA, MOU, and other SOPs .
3.Oversees, assess, monitor units activities, reporting, performance while daily morning brief.
4.Assess units’ security, POC and operational Plans, activities, through sector Operational Assessment Team (ORAST) and send guidance to re-adjust accordingly;
5.Ensure sector patrols to conduct field assessment after incidents and perform analysis as decided by sector north senior management team;
6.Give guidance to sector training section (G7) to identify weakness during operational activities as topics for training programs.
7.Oversee sector intelligence cell (G2) to correlate, summaries information in periodic reports, situational maps, and to perform Risk Assessment Service in coordination with the located DSS members.
8.Maintains awareness of prevailing security conditions for sector AOR, developing technical knowledge of security threat environments, identifying threats actors’ profiles where the UNAMID and other UN agencies (country team) operates;

Achievements:
1.Build wide working communication chains within AOR, including all stakeholders, including non-state elements (SLA/M, SLA/W, Arab militias), IDPs leaders and all relevant key players to support the mission leadership whilst critical times;
2.On 10 April 2014, accomplishment of successful negotiation with SLA non-State elements in (SORTONY area /East Jabal Mara), ended up neutralizing (SLA) combatants, to break the siege which was previously built against sector troops (SORTONY Ts).
3.On 11 Mar 15, accomplishment of successful negotiation with non-state element (SLA/W) in Sortoni team site/ sector north, who previously captured 22 contractor UNAMID trucks, the SLA/W commander announce the unconditional release of the trucks .
4.On 12 APRIL 15, accomplishment of successful mediation between Zayadia and Berti tribes in Mellit using my regional language (Arabic) and skills to defuse escalations between the two tribes.
5.On 8 Sep 16, accomplishment of successful Mitigation mission to defuse skirmishes between Arab nomads and IDPs in Sortoni and Kutum.
6.During my tour of duty, I supported and facilitate the establishment a number of:
a. (14) Functioning JOC in team sites integrated with all sector substantive sections with full (coordination, cooperation, integration and consensus) and ensure uniform reporting.
b. (8) Successful quarterly joint Command groups attended police and relevant key players, to discuss, resolve, keep the Events Track updated and suggest a way forward.
c.(3) Joint Protection Groups in affected sites in cooperation with local stakeholders to assure protection of civilians in (UMBARRU, SHANGEL TOBAYA and SORTONY).
d. (25) Workshops on ‘Customs, traditions and heritages related to land use in Darfur for sector troops while induction course (in mission training).
e. (16 QIPs) as contingent CIMIC activities by military components succeeded to build schools clinics and coordinating courses for local Darfurians in remote areas .
f. (14) Safe heavens and specify vulnerable women and children in the AOR, to ensure protection of civilian.
g. (9) Medical workshops held by contingents which trained (90) health workers for twelve localities within Aor.
h. (5) Rehearsals of population riot against far sub-units based on communal conflict and civil unrest history extracted from Sitrep;
i.Based on peacekeeping principles and mission mandate, initiate monthly security meeting protocol in all AOR between protection force and IDP leadership, to adapt the military activities with the requirements of the IDPs in most of the sector AOR (Farming and firewood patrols) in partnership with other mission components as well as UN agencies, local and international partners.
j.Support holding of (28) workshops on various governance and peace building aspects, to promote a culture of peace and educate the core values and competencies in all peacekeeping aspects.
k.Establishment of a comprehensive (16 JOCs) include all stakeholders reducing the confusion of conflicting information database and situational maps.
