DOB: 11/02

Estimated Rate: $70-90/hour

1. How many years of experience does the candidate have in Electronic Health Records certified by Joint Commission? I have 15 years’ experience with Cerner’s EHR, the first 2.5 years as a 1cerner employee designing and building their software to meet the needs of the specific client hospital.

2. Would the candidate be suited for junior or senior role? Prior to working for Cerner, I spent 22 years as a hospital department director at hospitals in Cleveland, OH, Augusta, GA, Kansas City, MO, and Kansas City, KS. I directed a staff of as many as 60 full time employees. I am well qualified to serve in either a senior or junior role.

3. How many years of experience does the candidate have in knowledge of hospital operational processes and policies? As mentioned above, I’ve had 22 years’ experience in hospital operations management at the director level. I’ve also mentored and advised other HIM directors and managers.

4. How many years of experience does the candidate have in the ability to translate clinical needs and work requirements into IT functional requirements and vice versa? After working for Cerner, I became the HIM Project Manager for Advent Health’s Cerner implementations at 27 of their hospitals around the country. In that role I served as the principal liaison between the Cerner team and each hospital’s HIM management team. As I would explain it to the HIM management teams, I was bilingual in that I spoke Cerner & English and would translate Cerner-speak into plain English so they could clearly understand it.

I left Advent Health at the end of 2006 to start a successful Cerner/HIM consulting business providing these same services to hospitals converting to Cerner’s software solutions as well as occasionally serving as an interim HIM director.

5. Please provide an example of the candidate working in a broad knowledge of the regulatory environment related to clinical systems and electronic health record implementations, including Joint Commission, OSHPD, HIPAA and an expert understanding of best practices for standards compliance. While an HIM & Quality Management Director for 22 years I served as the hospital’s Joint Commission survey coordinator and was responsible for reviewing Medical staff and hospital department standards compliance as well as host to the Joint Commission’s survey teams during hospital surveys. I also was the interim HIM director at a 3-hospital Central Valley California hospital system for 1.5 years where I worked closely with OSHPD data requirements and submission and was responsible for maintaining HIPAA standards for the 3 hospitals.
