RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant, Shell Lab WPI February 2020 - Present
● Conduct own project: Study the effects of TetR and tetO on mRNA half-life and protein degradation rate in Mycobacterium smegmatis to understand Tuberculosis and the cause of long-term therapy due to its stress tolerance.
● Conduct plasmid & oligo design, Gibson Assembly, plasmid purification, plasmid miniprep, PCR, RT-qPCR, Flow cytometry, DNA recovery and purification, E.coli & M. smegmatis transformation, cell culture, preparation of competent cells, MIC. Research Intern, Lucy Therapeutics May 2020 - August 2020
● Researched GPCR signaling pathways & mitophagy for drug development for neurodegenerative diseases by conducting cell lysis, BCA assay, cell culture & compound treatment, Seahorse XF96, and Complex V assay & presented testing data results to the 5 person research team.
● Studied the mechanisms of PINK1-PARK2-mediated mitophagy and the effect of mitochondrial quality control on pathways in different cell lines when treated with different compounds.
● Collaborated with the VP of Research and Director of Mitochondrial Biology on a Western Blot experiment.
● Utilized larger amounts of proteins, overnight incubation for primary antibodies at 4 C, and appropriate exposure times to provide sharp bands and clearer backgrounds to use the Western Blot experiment on more cell lines and antibodies.
● Assisted Research Associates with passaging and maintaining fibroblasts and Hela cells.
● Wrote, tested, and optimized SOP for Western Blot for fibroblasts, Hela cells, and glial cells detected by Azure Biosystems & Licor Odyssey to establish adenosine receptor profiles necessary for in vitro and in vivo testing later in development.
● Founded a Journal Club that presented a journal article every week to the board of experts to discuss the latest developments and studies in mitophagy and autophagosomes and their impact on current and future experiments. Veterinary Lab Technician, Beechnut Animal Hospital May 2019 - June 2019
● Assisted doctors, veterinary technicians, and 30+ animal patients per day with CBC, urinalysis, ear cytology, fecal flotation, Gram stain & parvovirus, heartworms tests, X-ray, dental radiography, and ultrasound. Lab Assistant - Professor Roberts and Professor Buckholt, WPI 2018 - 2020
● Set up, organized, and maintained a biology teaching and research lab by ensuring a clean and sterile environment, stocking and preparing chemicals, formulating solutions, plate pouring, and waste disposal to streamline operations class to class. SELECT PROJECT
The Race Against Antibiotic Resistance in 7 weeks, Professor Michael Buckholt and Louis Anthony Roberts
● Identified novel antibiotics produced by soil bacteria collected from areas around Worcester, MA, and hypothesized that these microbes had the potential antimicrobial ability to stop ESKAPE relatives from reproducing or destruction.
● Discovered that 1 of 12 isolated strains produced antibiotics active against E. coli and K. pneumoniae by serial dilutions, master plating, isolate testing, 16s gene PCR, gram stain, organic extraction, extract testing, and biochemical assays. 10/23/2020 Unofficial Transcript
