Work Experience

St. Benet’s RCVA Primary School Ouston:

September 2015- July 2018

I spent 3 years working at St. Benet’s supporting the delivery of PE within the school. For my first two years I was an apprentice which was ran through the Durham and Chester-Le-Street School Sport Partnership. The School Sport Partnership ran events which as an apprentice I would need to support the delivery and coaching of the event. This apprenticeship scheme allowed me to observe experienced teachers and from that develop my own view of coaching with support and guidance.

UK International Soccer:

July 2019 – September 2019

My role at UK International Soccer was a football coach, working at summer camps and working with a region of Saturday league teams. During the summer camps I worked in different areas of California coaching football to 5-15 year olds.

During September I was based in one location, I supported volunteer coaches in the local area. These coaches have teams that play in the American Youth Soccer Organisation (AYSO), the teams play every Saturday and train through the week. My role was to support the coaching during the week with different coaches and ages of players, on Saturdays I would coach under 4 and under 5 children. This would involve doing games that would develop the children’s fundamental movement skills, these would be simple games for both the children and their parents to do.

My experience in America was fantastic to see a different style of coaching and different ethos to football. I believe this experience has only improved my coaching and showed me how to explain a new sport to children.

PSG Academy England:

January 2020 – Present

Currently outside of university I am employed at PSG Academy England. My role with PSG is as an assistant coach working to develop young footballers in a secondary school in Leeds. On a weekly bases myself and the head coach will meet before the sessions and discuss the plans and aims for that day, we will both give our ideas and organise how we will work together and with the participants, some weeks we may allow freedom to the participants and others we may have a group each working on the same activity but allowing individuals more time to develop as they need additional time. Part of the role also includes discussions and teachings of nutrition and diet; PSG have these worksheets and checklists for us to use and will do this every other week educating the participants on how to look after their bodies as they progress through adolescence. Unfortunately, with this role I was hired in January and we were only able to get a small number of sessions in before Covid-19 locked down schools.

Leeds Beckett University – Placement:

November 2019 – Present

Leeds Modernians:

Through university we are given a placement in second year, mine was working with Leeds Modernians, they are an amateur football club playing in a local West Yorkshire league. My role are the club was take control of the third and forth teams training once a week, this was my first opportunity to coach adults, I went in with confidence in my coaching ability and have seen performance improvements since starting this placement to today, these performance improvements are based around what I want to see from football and made that clear to the participants at the start of my time coaching them. I have managed to carry this placement into my third year and continue to work with the teams, fitting in with the Covid-19 guidelines.

Leeds Beckett University Women’s Football team:

In September 2020 I emailed the football coordinator at the university to ask about any opportunities with the women’s football teams, this has led to my being involved in the coaching of two training sessions a week working with all three teams the university has. I wanted to work with the women’s team as that is an opportunity I have had before, the women’s game is one with levels of potential, this makes it an exciting time to be a part of women’s football and see the progression of the sport.
