Profile

A young, enthusiastic and versatile geologist with a desire to expand his current skills base with a ‘hands on’ approach to geology and mining.

Has gained experience in the field with working as a team but is also very comfortable working independently or within a supervising role. Is able to effectively operate under pressure and can efficiently complete tasks within given time frames.

Technical experience gained from geotechnical investigations in the KZN and Gauteng provinces as well as from the Sibanye Gold KDC EAST mine include:

Drawing up of cross sections and planning drill holes

Logging and sampling of both diamond core and reverse circulation chips

Shaft Geologist (Acting Superintendent Geology) DEC 2009 – Current

Joined the Thuthukani, Manyano and Thuthukani shaft of the Kloof mine, where main responsibilities included:

Performing assistance in Acting Senior Role

oHands-on experience in direction, supervision and management of geological projects and teams

oInvolvement in long term and short term planning, correlating geology efforts with regard to grade, evaluation and structural discontinuities.

oPerforming technical duties and providing guidance to other Geology team members to ensure delivery of quality geological information and technical expertise.

oExecuting mine geology tasks – planning, evaluation and development, implement and support ore control, drill targeting and QA/QC with strong safety and environmental focus.

oPlanning, budgeting, scheduling and implementation for mine business plan related to geology and extending LOM.

oAssist with budget preparation and submission for contractors.

oDrafted and implemented site exploration policies, and drilling procedures.

oDeveloped geological database and managed activities of assigned staff.

oPrepared and presented accurate 3D geological models.

Managing of five diamond drill rigs, which included:

oPlanning of holes to ensure developments are in “cover”, as well as for prospecting purposes and fastening facies boundaries.

oLogging, sampling and plotting of holes.

oDoing PTO audits of rigs to ensure correct positioning of holes and that safety standards are adhered too.

Giving geological input at planning, preplanning and G – Sheet meetings.

Bazi Dukhan Consulting Geotechnical Engineers Nov 2008 – Feb 2009

Trainee Geologist

Joined a small engineering geological consulting firm based in Durban that specialized in geotechnical surveys for construction purposes. Main duties included:

Report writing.

Logging of soil profiles during various geotechnical surveys.

Field work would be followed up by the drawing of profiles and sections before correlating the data gained from soil profiling and percussion chips. The results would then be handed over to the engineering geologist in the form of concise field reports.
