Resum’e

Name: Shiladitya Majumdar

E Mail ID: adidbo@r.postjobfree.com

Academic Qualification: Masters Mechanical Engineering

Phone Number: 91-630*******

Academia:

Masters – New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, New Jersey

Major – Mechanical Engineering

GPA – 8.05

Year of commencement – completion – 2018-2020

Bachelors – Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, Karnataka Major – Mechanical Engineering

GPA – 7.44

Year of commencement- completion – 2014-2018

Skills:

Designing skills - Designed gears, CVT and shafts using concepts of machine design with a strong emphasis on clearance and factor of safety. The process included idea generation, calculation, implementation using CAD software, and sometimes analysis.

SolidWorks®

CATIA®

Pro E®

Creo Manufacture®

Siemens NX®

AutoCad®

Ansys Workbench®

Matlab®

MS Excel®

MS Powerpoint®

MS Word®

Strong communication skills and verbal skills –

GRE – 318

TOEFL – 99

IELTS – 7.5

Creativity – Out of the box and non- conventional solutions are sometimes necessary for solving design related problems. Designing requires observation, identification and implementation.

Drafting – Drafted a U Joint for an off road vehicle. About me – Determined, dedicated and driven.

Internships –

Ford, Chennai

Date of commencement – completion – June – August 2016 Topic – Rear End Fit and Finish

Work Done – Measured the gap and flushness between the roof and swing gate of the Ford EcoSport car.

Determined the cause of the excess gap and flushness and where in the assembly line was this error arising.

Found out steps to overcome this problem.

Need for the project – There were customer complains about the aesthetics of the car and this needed to be fixed.

Defense Research and Development Laboratory, Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad

Date of commencement – completion – January - August 2018 Topic – Measurement of Thermal Contact Resistance between two Aluminum Flanges

Work Done – Learned SolidWorks® to be able to design Designed experimental setup multiple times to provide an easy to manufacture model and assembly.

Performed Ansys® analysis on the flanges.

Observed the manufacturing process.

Assembled the components and the flanges.

Performed the experiment and represented the resistance as thickness of Aluminum.

Need for the project – The housing protects the ballistic missile’s electronic components and prevents them from melting due to high temperature as the missile travels at near mach speeds. So to provide proper insulation, the outer cover of the missile has to be thick. But this means that the propellant required to launch the missile will be more. By using the concept of thermal contact resistance, we can use less thick aluminum and less propellant will be needed for launching of the missile.

Mercedes Benz Research and Development India, Whitefield, Bangalore

Date of commencement – completion – June – August 2019 Topic – Design a gearbox layout for electric trucks Work Done – Learned Siemens NX® for designing the gearbox Generated different ideas for the gearbox. The requirement was to design a compact and efficient gearbox.

Designed gearbox based on all the ideas.

Compared the efficiency and the compactness of all the gearboxes. Designed the gears and shafts so that they are easy to manufacture, economical and have shorter manufacturing lead time. Also the gearboxes were easy to lubricate and cool.

Selected the best out of all the generated ideas.

Assembled in the chassis model to check for interference with the chassis.

Need for the project – Electrification of vehicles is a necessity for a pollution free future. In India, this notion has been realized and an exodus from IC Engine vehicles has become a trend by manufacturers and customers. Hence developing a gearbox for required torque is of the utmost importance.

Professional Experience –

Highlander Racing (All Terrain Buggy)

Year active – 2018-2020 (2 years)

Role – Design leader, Powertrain design

Work Done –

Full Car Assembly – I had to assemble the entire car. This helped me get acquainted to large assemblies and work with them without holding myself back.

Gear Design –I was given the task to reduce the weight of gears. I managed to make the gears 43% lighter and performed Ansys® analysis on them to determine the factor of safety on them.

CVT Design – I was also given the task of designing an e CVT for the team. I had to understand various concepts like V Belt pulleys and power screws to do the design and finally, I completed the model in SolidWorks®.

Four Wheel Drive System – I had to work on designing the four wheel drive system. This is due to the change of rules which mandates that from 2021, every car had to be four wheel drive. This is a change from the previous rear wheel drive cars. I had to do the entire system alone and the system consists of a transfer gear set, differential gears and shafts. A daunting task for an individual, it took me five months to complete this project. Other Design Projects –

Design an Engineering Toy – In 2019, I designed an engineering toy consisting of gears to spark an interest about mechanical engineering amongst kids between the age of 5- 10. This is a very useful toy as kids can learn about concepts of torque while playing. The game was about putting cogs on a board to lift a load. Kids had to take a board, put tiny toy shafts on cog wheels and mesh the gears together. On one end was a crank that the child had to turn and on other end was the pulley attached to the load through a string. This was a project by three members and my team member got the parts 3 D printed.

Cart Model – This was a part of the course Computer Aided Designing wherein I had to design parts of a cart based on dimensions provided and assemble them together.

Shaft Centering Attachment – This was also a project in my CAD class. The dimensions were given and we had to design and assemble the parts together.

Lego® design – Between June – October 2020, I wanted to design something different. I wanted to venture out of gear design and look towards something unorthodox. I decided to start designing Lego® products. These are extremely time consuming to design but are very fulfilling when completed. I believe that I am a better designer after doing the designs.
