SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
Recognized by staff and management as primary care’s behavioral health liaison and addressed behavioral health accessibility by reserving same day access to walk in patients with mental health complaints. Continually partnered with behavioral health providers to address patient flow and accessibility. Advocated for patients with mental health needs to primary care providers reluctant to address common mental health needs such as anxiety and depression.
Result: Built strong relationships with patients and behavioral health team that led to decreased behavioral health no-show rates as a result of warm hand-offs, additional patient education and bridging medication needs when availability challenges arose.
Exceeded Government Performance Modernization Act (GPRA) measurement goals in each year at IHS by incorporating health maintenance procedures/test/labs with each acute visit to improve medical home team goals. Result: Emphasis on preventative health screenings during acute care visits resulted in colorectal, pap smear, and mammogram rates above goal for team.
Led clinical staff is mission to supply “highly competent” care by expanding knowledge base of clinical staff and peers with routine discussion of guidelines, proper procedure techniques, and setting expectations of problem-focused care. Utilized an open door policy to encourage communication, reinforce trainings, and address knowledge deficiencies. Result: Improved clinical flow by having MAs work to the full scope of practice. Increased efficiency by expanding skill set/knowledge base of newly certified clinical staff and reducing workload burden of senior staff. Saw improvement to support staff decision-making/triage skills. Recognized as triage nurse mentor by management.
Expanded access to care by considering cultural preferences of patient population and structuring clinic schedule to meet these expectations by reserving half of appointment times for same-day visits/ acute complaints on a walk-in basis. Result: Increase patient access to care for acute issues resulting in fewer visits to Emergency Department and on-campus Urgent Care Clinic. Reduced the number of “no-show”/ missed appointments leading to more billable visits and capturing additional revenue.
