To whom it may concern,
I am interested in the Postdoctoral Fellowship position because of the passion I have for improving the wellbeing of those who struggle with mental health and traumatic experiences. I would highly value joining your mission, which reflects that betterment. I have recently earned my PhD in Psychology and published a research dissertation titled “Self-Disclosures, Self-Monitoring, and Rewards in an Online Mutual-Help Group.” I have research experience in qualitative and mixed-method approaches regarding human behavior and I have counseling experience in residential and school settings. I have helped preserve businesses locally and have helped market businesses nationally, while working as an office manager. My related experience is in counseling, crisis intervention, and the use of evidence-based practice of therapeutic behavioral techniques and activities as well as collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. While working as a residential counselor, I was able to help facilitate successful outcomes in adolescents with different developmental, genetic or trauma-based psychiatric disorders who were also adjudicated as a C.I.N.A. (child in need of assistance). I was trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), but took pride in my ability to de-escalate clients with verbal prompting and instilling knowledge of self-behaviors through communication. However, I was not in charge of final evaluations nor neuropsychological assessments as this was done by the staff licensed psychologist. It is my next goal to engage in an internship or postdoctoral fellowship to learn from experienced professionals and reach my final aspiration of being a licensed clinical psychologist and proficient experimental researcher.
My proudest achievements include being a mom to two kind children, earning my PhD in general psychology, receiving academic grants based on my GPA and helpful nature in school, and graduating Summa Cum Laude with my Master of Science in Psychology degree. I also received Iowa’s “First in the Nation in Education” (FINE) Award, as part of mentorship program called, “Shooting Stars,” presented by former Iowa Governor & United States Ambassador, Terry Branstad, who invited our group to the Iowa Governor’s Mansion for a formal reception.
In my spare time I love playing tennis, being outdoors and volunteering for different local and national non-profit organizations. I enjoy being on the Board of Directors as Vice Chair for the New Kingdom Trailriders, a therapeutic horseback riding non-profit for those with all levels of physical and mental abilities, including Veterans who suffer from PTSD. This year we added a Veteran’s garden for all to come and enjoy working in or harvesting for consumption. Every week it was my favorite place to go volunteer at to socialize (safely) with amazing men and women. I also enjoy being a volunteer for the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) on their fundraising projects. I also have volunteered for Project Now on charitable services days that include cooking or making quilts and dolls for low-income families. If I were to be hired for the postdoctoral fellowship, I would continue my sincere work ethic, precision in academia, and take pleasure in learning from more experienced mental health professionals. Thank you in advance for taking time to look over my information, I too understand the difficulties in choosing adequate associates. After you finish reading, I hope you feel relief with knowing that I would be a dedicated, hard-working and beneficial employee. For more information, please choose to arrange a meeting with me.
Thank you for your time,
