Macallister (Cali) Steffenhagen

6508 Blue Wing Drive, Alexandria VA 22307· 657-***-**** · adi5xo@r.postjobfree.com Dear The Fund for American Studies team,

My name is Macallister Steffenhagen. I believe that my background and education make me an ideal candidate for the Donor Relations Associate position. I am a British-American dual citizen. I have lived in Wales, Italy, Belgium, England and the U.S. My BA at Albion College developed strong communication, analytical and teamwork skills. My study of history significantly improved my writing and research skills. In 2015 I completed an internship at European Parliament in Brussels. This fast-paced and detailed environment, working directly for a member of Parliament, was a very practical introduction to a real-world work environment. During undergraduate and postgraduate school, part-time jobs helped with expenses. This has taught me how to work hard, multitask and stay organized.

I am a recent International Marketing MSc graduate at King’s College, London. KCL is a member of the Russell Group, the most esteemed U.K. universities. My studies ranged from marketing theory, consumer behavior, to data analytics. My MSc has further prepared me for a career in marketing and communications.

After moving to California from London, to transition to life in America, I accepted freelance marketing work, handling the digital marketing for a sustainable online boutique, Give Back Goods, allowing me to develop my marketing skills.

I was hired as a marketing assistant and a patient coordinator for a bariatric surgeon in Newport Beach on March 2. I had a challenging role with diverse responsibilities. It was a small startup- there was only myself, an office manager, and the doctor.

The most significant aspect of this work experience was email marketing. My boss had accumulated a database of ~6,000 emails. It is not uncommon in surgery for patients to take years to consider a procedure, so our email marketing efforts had great efficacy. The content of the e-mails was developed collaboratively between myself and the doctor. I was responsible for formatting and scheduling campaigns, as well as collecting and analyzing subsequent data. When new leads arrived through our website, ads, and landing pages (which I maintained through Wordpress), I initiated contact and recorded patient data and communication on a spreadsheet. I handled all written communications with patients- I was the first point of contact, I answered phones and reached out to leads, I developed the outline to introduce the doctor’s surgical services and pre-surgical process, and I produced marketing materials for the office.

A significant amount of time was spent developing marketing strategy; I would write marketing reports and have weekly collaborative meetings with the doctor. I am very familiar with brand identity theories and practices, and would be comfortable in this environment with leadership and clientele. I utilized spreadsheets to keep track of contact conversion data, how many leads schedule consultations and eventually complete surgery. This was further experience with a CRM database. A large part of our business came from physician referrals, so I coordinated a physician mailing initiative to increase awareness within Orange County. This required the development of marketing materials. Additionally, the doctor invented a new surgical procedure which was being offered as an IRB- approved clinical trial. This required further data collection and organization, as well as promotion within the regulations of the medical board. While social media is not necessarily the driving force in medical marketing, I maintained the Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the practice and the doctor himself. This role was a hybrid of marketing and patient coordination. I had various responsibilities in the medical portion of my work. I look forward to a position that is focused entirely on marketing and communications. I also look forward to a client-facing position. I believe that I work very well with others.

Thank you for your consideration. Warm regards,

Macallister Steffenhagen, B.A., M.S.c.
