6 Month M.Tech Project Internship on ‘Interior Sound Quality characteristic comparison of Diesel & Electrical vehicles: Best possible way to improve SQ of Electric vehicle’ done at NVH department, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Kothrud, Pune. PROJECTS

Interior Sound Quality characteristic comparison of Diesel & Electrical vehicles: Best possible way to improve SQ of Electric vehicle

- Subjective & Objective evaluations obtained for 8 psychoacoustic parameters at 7 different operating conditions. Outdoor vehicle road tests done using LMS test lab software & subjective tests by 20 subjects in hemi anechoic chamber.Various correlations, graphs obtained between SQ parameters & Subjective annoyance.

Study & comparison of Pass by noise of two wheelers as per IS 3028 standard :

- Two 2-wheelers i.e. Honda Unicorn and Suzuki Gixxer selected for pass by noise test. Both run at approaching speed of 50kmph as per AIS 3028. Pass by noise level is tested in terms of dB level for forward and backward passes for each vehicle with two microphones. Pass by noise level for Gixxer is 64.5 dB and for Unicorn is 63.5 dB, which is less than the maximum limit of 77 dB as per standard.

CFD Simulation of Lithium-ion battery cooling system using Aluminium foam in ANSYS CFX :

- A battery pack of 3 LiFePO4 pouch cell, aluminium foam with a heat spreader is used. Different porosities and pore densities of 10PPI and 20PPI aluminium foam considered to analyze thermal performance numerically. The aluminium foam with 10PPI and 0.918 porosity gives the better reduction in temperature & flow resistance.

Port flow and combustion simulation of an internal combustion engine in ANSYS Fluent :

- Combustion process inside engine cylinder analysed at compression ratios i.e. 10 & 14 for gasoline fuel. In port flow analysis, the velocity in case of 3mm valve lift increases gradually while for 5mm valve lift velocity first increases, then becomes constant & for 8mm valve lift, velocity first increases upto peak and then decreases.

Performance and emission analysis of CNG and HCNG as a fuel in SI engine in GT SUITE :

- Variation in performance & emission for CNG and HCNG fuel compared with gasoline in GT Suite. The compression ratio for CNG varied form 9.5 to 13. Optimum C.R. found to be 12.5. then hydrogen is added to CNG in ratio 10%,20%,30% and 40%, where HCNG 30 gave optimum performance & emission characteristics.

Frontal, side and Rear crash test of a minibus as per AIS standard using ANSYS Explicit dynamic and ANSYS Static Structural solver :

- Frontal, Side & Rear crash of a minibus simulated on ANSYS Workbench as per AIS- 98, 99 and 101 standard. Static and dynamic impacts have simulated at different speeds as per standard and also the deformation with time and specific energy absorption plotted for all the impacts.

Specific Energy Absorption Capability analysis for Crash Box with different notches using LS DYNA:

- Energy absorption characteristics investigated for aluminium 6063 and Steel material crash box of square section with different notches i.e. elliptical, circular, square, rectangular & corner notches subjected to axial compression. Use of notches changed the deformation pattern and energy absorption value significantly.

Effect of Tie rod length variation on steering geometry of a vehicle using ADAMS software :

- Steering geometry of selected car model is analysed and the results are compared after variation of tie rod length by 5%, -5%, 10% and -10% of original tie rod length. For both parallel and opposite wheel bump maximum caster angle and toe angle variation occur when tie rod length increases to 10% of original length. AREAS OF INTEREST

Noise, Vibration & Harshness
