For each procedure I was responsible for (but not limited to):
Preparing patients for procedures: Includes checking and verifying vital signs, meds, NPO status, lab results, and medical history, NIHSS assessment for acute CVA pre and post procedure, ensure informed consent was signed, coordinating with radiologist and ordering physicians ensuring the correct order was written and on the chart prior to procedure, coordinating and establishing an anesthesiologist was available and present for procedures that required their service, etc.
Providing education to the patient and family members: Includes ensuring the patient and family members understand the procedure and plan of care before signing procedural consent and providing them with discharge planning/instructions.
Inserting and removing intravenous lines
Administering conscious sedation drugs and other drugs
Monitoring patient patterns and vital signs during the procedure
Overseeing the safety and comfort of patients before, during, and after procedures
Providing post-procedure monitoring: Includes observing for signs and symptoms of complications, such as bleeding from the puncture site, pain, and/or changes in mental status or vital signs

Palomar Medical Center Travel - Registered Nurse: Level II Trauma Emergency Room
2012 - 2013 Job responsibilities: Assessing, intervening and stabilizing a variety of trauma and illnesses with decisive action. Due to the range of medical conditions that may require urgent treatment and care, I was required to have knowledgeable about general as well as specific health issues. Triage, prioritizing injuries based on medical need and make quick and accurate assessments about incoming patients, including both physical and mental health conditions. Time management, proper identification of a medical condition and initiating protocol related to each condition was imperative. Carrying out JOCT core measures such as: sepsis, stroke, MI, pneumonia, heart failure, etc. Other responsibilities included but are not limited to, moving patients, starting IV, taking blood samples, cleaning and bandaging wounds, splinting, initiating appropriate POCT, administering medications, ECG monitoring, and maintaining proper supplies of medical equipment. I was specifically trained to provide care to patients in the level I trauma bay, with the majority of patients sustaining life threatening penetrating trauma, quickly and efficiently collected pertinent medical data to assign a triage class to rapidly arriving patients. Learned and adhered to the California Nurse Practice Act, The American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the ANA Bill of Rights for Registered Nurses and the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing. I was responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts and mobilization and participated as needed in patient handling.
